Dr. Shan Melissa Biscette, MD

Dr. Biscette is an amazing and caring provider. She is very thorough. She explaines everything. She has a very calming presence. She is also understanding and want to ensure that her parents not only understand the plans and what’s going on but that is what they want to do. I can’t say enough good things about her.

Dr Biscette spent seven hours on my myomectomy to remove uterine fibriods, basically to test herself to see if she could do it at my expense not caring about all the problems her decision has caused me, especially considering that I signed a consent to convert to an open procedure or to perform a hysterectomy if there were complications, to which there were. She did convert to a laparotomy during the final stages of the surgery, but by the fifth or sixth hour or torture, it was too late. The damage of being in trendelenburg on the table for seven hours, and her failure to make a critical decisions early on during the surgery was past. She put me at risk for several several complications from just the length of the procedure itself. That all by itself was completely negligent. As a result of her care, I now suffer from chronic venous insufficiency in my legs, making it extremely difficult for me to sit or stand for long periods of time, which impacts every aspect of my life. I have… to sleep with several pillows under my legs at night to prevent the blood from pooling in my legs. I have to wear 30-40 high grade compression stocking covering both my legs even to get up to use the bathroom, and have to use a shower chair. I have an enlarged 17.5 cm uterus with a large 10cm fibriod that she failed to remove during the pointless and dangerous surgery she performed, as well as adenomyosis because of the trauma of the length of the procedure. The only cure for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy, which is another major surgery not without may risks, and which was not necessary before receiving care from Dr. Biscette.

r. Biscette performed laproscopic surgery to remove uterine fibriods, but did not do any sort of advanced imaging before the procedure, so she missed a large fibriod I had hidden in my uterine wall. She would have seen this if she would have done an MRI or SIS beforehand, but she didn't and thinks she did nothing wrong. Afterwards, my symptoms became worse after I developed adenomyosis from the trauma of the 7 hour surgery she performed. I understand it was a difficult surgery because of my situation, but she should have warned me of this possibility. I would have chosen an open procedure. She also said that she told me that fibriods could be missed. This is a lie. If that was the case, why didn't she do an MRI? Then she prescribed depo which made the fibroid that she left behind grow to the size of a grapefruit, along with the adenomyosis, my uterus is now very enlarged bigger than when before I saw her, and causing venous insufficiency in my leg which she told me was unrelated. She… also failed to mention that I had adenomyosis when an SIS was performed after the surgery, and it wasn't until my new doctor told me I had it after doing an MRI. Because of Dr. Biscette, I'm now facing a hysterectomy, another major surgery, more time off work and I'm just now coming off of the horrible depo that was causing horrible side effects and should not have been given to me due to my leg, risk of blood clots and other reasons. Doctors need to think more carefully and critically about each individual patient and not lump us all together because it can have devastating consequences. Dr. Biscette should have told me that she needed to perform an MRI, that she just didn't know how many fibriods, what kind and where, and she also should have said she would convert to an open procedure if she could not get the fibriods out in a reasonable amount of time because they were embloized, and then she may have been able to find the third fibroid. After, she kept covering up her mistakes one right after the other making things worse, prescribing depo, not forwarding all my medical results, not telling me or my new provider that I now had adenomyosis on top of everything else. She hid this information from my medical records. She made me seem like a bad crazy irrational patient who did not show up to her follow up appointments. Her advice was that nothing was wrong, she hid from me that I had adenomyosis and said my leg problem was not related to the surgery, it was. She should have just done an MRI and an open procedure, told me too bad, laparoscopic with large emoblized fibriods is too difficult and I would have been okay with that reality. Instead she made things worse by not taking things seriously, withholding my records and prescribing the depo. This is the kind of doctor who creates unnecessary hysterectomies for complex cases. Steer clear unless you are going to have an open procedure or your case isn't more complex like mine was. I lost all my savings, I couldn't make it to my followups because my bleeding was so bad due to her mistakes which she blames me for in my medical records. I've tried to contact the hospital and they just ignore me and they don't care. These people think they did nothing wrong. I am now facing a hysterectomy but I'm so sick of all this anyhow. I just want my life back and it didn't have to be this way. It could have been avoided with advanced imaging and open surgery. I assumed Dr. Biscette knew what she was going. I honestly don't think she meant to do this and I think she tried her best, but she failed to order the images for such a critical and difficult procedure and she failed to access the situation properly afterwards only caring about covering her mistakes and blaming the victim. I pray to God everyday to forgive her because I did not get a fair deal or treatment and seeing Dr. Biscette made a complicated health issue 10x worse. She made my road and my battle longer, harder and much more difficult for sure.
