Dr. Shengping Zou, MD

Terrible

This Dr told me I had to live with pain and had no solutions. I've never had a Dr with that attitude before. Very frustrating.

If a zero could be assigned, I would select that score. Dr. Zou is simply a greedy LIAR and represents a composite of everything materially wrong with the medical establishment. I went to see this charlatan when I had NJ Medicaid (family care) insurance. Because of my plan, I had to wait 2 months for an "evaluation" appointment. I brought my MRI which indicated several herniated discs and disc bulges. I was hoping to get an epidural or some other form of similar treatment. Dr. Zou claimed my pain was due to stress and imaginary. His diagnosis was puzzling since I was under no stress and do not suffer from depression or other illnesses. Zou accepts medicaid patients as a condition of his participation with Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He disposes of those patients since medicaid pays much less than the other Horizon plans. His real motivation is to bill against the more lucrative Horizon plans. This scam was brought to my attention when I complained to Horizon… about this greedy liar. Its a disgrace that physicians like this are somehow able to practice. I waited 2 months to be lied to. He wasted my time and I remained in pain until finding a real doctor. Avoid his office. He is a liar and probably incompetent. Its all about the money with this thief.

Doctor Zou treated me like a drug seeker bc I have tattoos/history of mental illness.

I have been to many doctors over the past year for extreme back pain (which my other doctors agree are debilitating and likely related to anxiety). I went to a pain management center because my old doctor moved and was not legally permitted to take me with him due to non-competes.I spoke to Dr. Zou's internist first who was fantastic and who suggested a course of action that made sense to me. (I haven't slept in weeks because of the pain.)Dr. Zou was extremely cold and suggested a course of action that included a series of shots in my back. My old doctor had done that and had had a 75% success rate for about a week. It also left me in severe pain so I couldn't get out of bed for a couple days. Dr. Zou suggested that my old doctor didn't know what he was doing and that this would work instead (and that he was unwilling to provide any painkillers, which my old doctor provided and that did work). He also intimated I was a drug seeker, which was extremely hurtful as my grandfather… was an alcoholic and I've been extremely concerned about being an addict (and have brought that up to each doctor). I have no idea why Dr. Zou is employed at a pain management center or how he could benefit patients, but he was cold, brusque, and generally nasty towards me. I highly discourage any patient going to him (although his internist again was fantastic).

Dr. Zou is a great doctor! He is a "straight to the point" kind of doctor that actually knows what he's talking about. Some people may get turned off by the language barrier, but hey!, this is New York and if you have a problem understanding him then you don't belong in New York! Dr. Zou is very knowledgeable, kind and most importantly, honest. He is not "trigger happy" with injections unless needed. The first time I saw him he examined me and diagnosed my problem. Since then, I feel much better.Finally!!! It took me about 15 years of trial and error, going from "top doctor" to "top doctor" until I found Dr. Zou. He is an attending physician at NYU and Director of the fellowship program in Pain Management. His office is very professional and appointments are available in a timely manner.

He seemed more concerned with my background and my mindset then he did of the pain I had for which i was there in the first place. He did not even examine me until 30 minutes in to me being in the room. His diagnosis was inaccurate. His treatment plan was unhelpful. I left his office with absolutely no help and even more frustration then when I went in. After leaving his office, I was not even sure what kind of doctor he actually was. I question how he even got his license to practice medicine in the first place.

First of all, Dr. Zou had difficulty with the English language. He made inappropriate comments that made this patient feel worse. He felt the need to point out that he was mentioned in a NY Times article. That did not make my pain go away. He has poor insight and reminded me of Michael Jackson's doctors. Perhaps others have had positive experiences, not this patient.
