Dr. Sherri Lee Maetozo, MD

Maetozo Total Woman’s Care (MTWC) accepted an age-inappropriate referral for my daughter and up-coded/overcharged us for a level of service that was not provided. Background: My 12 year-old daughter was seen in the Wolfson Children’s Emergency room and diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. We were instructed to follow up with our primary care provider and to request a referral to a specialist for further diagnostic imaging, ongoing management/surveillance, and possible resection. Our primary care provider placed a referral to MTWC. Demographic and insurance information (both of which clearly stated my daughter’s date of birth and age) as well as the purpose for the consultation (i.e. diagnostic ultrasound) were forwarded to this clinic prior to our appointment. MTWC accepted the referral. We were seen by one of the practice’s Nurse Practitioners who did not perform a comprehensive history or even ask about my daughter’s symptoms—she just paraphrased the abdominal ultrasound report… from the ER to us. She also did not take a past medical history, past surgical history, family history, or social history. Her physical exam consisted of listening to my daughter’s heart, lungs and brief abdominal palpation. The entirety of the visit lasted just under 5 minutes. She then instructed us to schedule a second visit for my daughter’s ultrasound and charged us a 99204 for the encounter. As I was checking out, I expressed my frustration to the receptionist that we were under the impression my daughter would be getting her ultrasound that day and that I didn’t feel like this initial visit provided any value. The receptionist replied, “that’s just how we do things here—you have to be seen first before any tests can be administered.” She scheduled us for the ultrasound and we left. Within fifteen minutes of leaving the appointment, I received a call from MTWC informing me that they had to cancel the scheduled ultrasound because they don’t do ultrasounds on 12 year olds. When I asked why they even accepted the referral in the first place, the receptionist could not provide a rational answer. I have made multiple attempts to speak with the practice manager regarding my concerns and to request a refund for a referral that should have never been accepted. To date, my phone messages and concerns have gone unaddressed by Heather, the practice manager. I have since contacted my insurance company to request that the claim be audited. I have also posted an on-line review of my experience—in doing so, I came across many other similar reviews and have concluded that this medical practice engages in frequent over-billing/upcoding of its patients and other unethical practices that negatively impact the patients they serve. This practice should be audited for its billing and compliance practices. As a single mother and schoolteacher on a fixed income, I simply cannot afford to be taken advantage of in this way. My $60.00 copay was essentially a waste of money and the logistics involved in getting my daughter to that appointment was a waste our time. I am certain there are many other patients with similar resource constraints who deserve to be protected from the predatory practices this clinic appears to engage in on a regular basis. I hope the Board of Medicine will audit this clinic and take the steps necessary to protect the public’s interest and trust in this matter. I have reported this practice to the Florida State Board of Medicine, filed a written compaint with the Florida Board of Medicine's on-line Health Care Complaint Portal and written reviews on healthgradescom and google reviews. I encourage others to document their poor experience with this clinic in a similar manner.

Receptionist Jennifer is taking out mental health problems and/or personal issues on patients. Had an emergency that made me run late to a colposcopy with cervical biopsy appointment so I called the office right away. Jennifer tried to blame me for the doctor “moving her entire schedule around” as if my emergency were somehow on purpose. Jennifer rudely interrupted me to tell me I was calling it a “biopsy” incorrectly even though the nurse herself had called it a “biopsy” lol. Then she tried to schedule me a month from today even though this appt. is to make sure I don’t have cervical cancer… no big deal just potential cancer. Then suddenly (AFTER SHE DECIDED I WAS HER PERSONAL PUNCHING BAG) she felt like charging me $75 for an emergency situation I had no control over making me late. $75 on top of losing my health insurance and planning to pay out-of-pocket for this procedure. Did not put me on a waiting list. When I asked to speak to someone(ANYONE) else, Jennifer refused and stated… she was the only one in the office. Everywhere else I called is booked up but they are also rational and polite, making it abundantly clear Jennifer should not represent such an amazing doctor.

Was very pleased with Dr.Maetozo and her clerical office staff. However, I had one test that took me 5 weeks to get a report and recommendations on. To be clear, this was delegated to the NP. After at least 5 calls to the office where the clerical folks were most pleasant, I received a call back. After requesting the report and written recommendations, I finally got in the mail the report with unsigned written notes from this NP. As I had the same title for over 15 years, I was very disappointed and went to another physician, not a gynecologist to get his recommendations which were less expensive and to be done after labwork. I will still see Dr. Maetozo but will tell her of my negative feelings when I next see her.

Dr Maetozo is outstanding in every way. She is intelligent ,kind and compassionate. She is so easy to talk to and is calming and gentle..

I have seen Dr. Maetoza for 12 years. I have yet to have anything but positive experiences visiting the office, including her office staff as well as her nurse practitioner. Yes, there is often a wait longer than 10 minutes, but i believe this is due to her taking time with each patient's needs as well as emergencies that often arise.

Ms. Weaver is a knowledgeable and caring nurse practioner. I usually request her for exams as her paps are painless compared to Dr. M's. She has helped me to understand my body better thanks to her taking time to explain answers to my concerns and suggestions to improve my health.

Horrible experience with the front desk, would not refer.
