Dr. Sidney Schulman, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Schulman did an excellent job on my hip replacements (2 within 9 months). His expertise and caring ways will always be remembered. I'd definitely recommend.

I had bone on bone osteoarthritis of my knee, been dealing with it for several years. About 5 years back I was told I wasn't a good candidate for surgery since the components used generally lasted around 20 years, due to my age I'd require a revision eventually. Keep what God gave you as long as possible. Osteoarthritis only gets worse as time moves on! Fast forward to last year and an appointment with xrays. I was then told I was a good candidate. My goal was to be able to be as active as I presently was without pain. A knee replacement would allow me that, that's what I was told. I was also told the first three months after surgery would be rough but it would be great after that. I was told I needed to stay on the drugs I was given to get through the pain of the required daily exercises and physical therapy. I started taking the pain medicine but after awhile wanted off them. I didn't like how they made me feel, and there were withdrawal symptoms. I got reprimanded and told I needed… to continue taking them. I'm fine with working through being uncomfortable while doing therapy, but working through pain doesn't make sense. Fast forward three months, my range of movement (rom) is behind and really not improving. The doctor tells me he doesn't want to do a manipulation for fear of breaking a bone. It's suggested I get a splint to hopefully help. Other than that it is what it is. The way I view it he gave up. It's now six months later and I'm still having issues although I am able to bend my knee a bit more. I've moved on, am seeing another orthopedic surgeon since I lost all confidence that Dr. Schulman could make the wrong right.

Excellent Dr who did my hip replacement, courteous and well mannered, took all the time with me that I needed.

His nurse gets all 5 on her stars. He gets all 1 on his stars. I heard good and bad about him. Maybe he was having an off day, but he didn't give me options to do and clearly he knew I was in pain. He was telling me different things then my other knee specialist said about 15 years who did my knee surgery. (I can't see him since I am in another state and he doesn't take my insurance).
