Dr. Staci R Emerson, PhD

I’ve been waiting several years to write this review. I didn’t want to do it until I was finished with therapy, partly so I had a hindsight perspective and partly because I didn’t really want to share her with others. But I feel differently now because I think when someone changes your life, you should thank them. I went to see Dr. Emerson when my partner of 25 years was in hospice. At the time, I was in a blur but I knew I needed support. Dr. Emerson was like a friend who always knew what I needed to hear, even when I didn’t recognize it. But she also seemed to understand so deeply what I was thinking and feeling that she made me know I was not on my own to figure out how to keep going. She was by my side during my deepest grief and always made time when a wave to wash over me. I began to realize that it took the death of my beloved to reach out for help on my own behalf, but really therapy was something I should have done many years prior. With her help, I was able to connect the way… I experienced loss with a lot of things I’d stuffed down for many years, believing things were all unrelated if I kept them in compartments. I think the top things a person should look for when shopping for a therapist are experience and wisdom because all the skills in the world won’t work if the therapist doesn’t know how, when, and why to apply them. Dr. Emerson has been practicing for a long time and it shows. She isn’t the kind of therapist you’re likely to find on mental health apps. You can tell she’s seen it all because nothing surprises or stumps her! Her sensitivity to my unique personality and her awareness of the big picture of my life ahead that I struggled to see for myself, was like having a wise guide nudge me forward on a path she shined light on. I will probably return to therapy again at some point later in my life, but for now, this review shall serve as my letter of gratitude to the person who made it possible for me to walk into the next bright chapter of my life with strength and a hopeful curiosity for what is coming next.

I’ve worked with Dr. Emerson, on and off, for many years depending on where my life and needs led me. I was lucky to be referred to her many years ago, during a time in my life when I had zero self-confidence. When I think back to the places I’ve traveled with her help, the things I’ve overcome, and the growth I’ve achieved, it is a pleasure to give credit to such a smart and skilled therapist, who won’t waste your time, and money, or attention span and will teach you how to do good self-work regardless of your reasons for seeking help.

Of the many qualities I like about Dr. Emerson , the most important one to me is that she truly cares about helping me see the many areas in my life that I often neglected or ignored. She is a wonderful doctor, empathic and supportive while also holding me accountable like a great coach or mentor. I went to see Dr Emerson for anxiety and depression and from my visits, I learned techniques to better understand and take control of the many emotional issues that often went unchecked or wrong with me. I attribute my overall health improvements to her as well. She is insightful in so many areas helping me understand the connection between mind and body, as well as explaining the why and the how I got to this point, what my options are and techniques for when I need guidance in the future. When I say "Thank You" now, I end those words with "Dr Emerson".
