Summary
Dr. Stacy Snyder cannot remember a time when she wanted to be anything but a doctor. Her parents have said it was all she talked about since she was old enough to pedal a tricycle, tell time on a clock and turn the pages of a book.
“I always knew I wanted to be a pediatrician. Working with kids allows me to connect with my inner child while still working to achieve the best possible medical outcome for my patients.”
Her path into pediatric hematology/oncology has taken her as far away as Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during her international rotation in medical school (University of Toledo College of Medicine). But ultimately Dr. Snyder knew she wanted to relocate closer to her family in Ohio and fell in love with Beacon Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Snyder said it’s an honor to be with her patients on their journey, because they teach her about strength and resilience.
“People often walk into the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology clinic and are surprised to find the patients playing, laughing, …and just being kids. As their doctor, I walk into the office and see incredible children who are fighting for their lives,” she said. “I want families to ask me every question and discuss all concerns. I want them to know that I care deeply for each and every patient and will be with them every step of the way.”
In her own words
What was your first job? My very first job was babysitting for neighborhood kids. My first “real” job was a swim lesson instructor and lifeguard at the local YMCA. I enjoyed being able to work with the children and having fun while teaching them important life skills.
What is your favorite movie? I enjoy all Disney/Pixar movies but my all-time favorite is Mulan. I am also partial to the Harry Potter series.
What is your favorite food? I like foods with flavor and spice. My go-to food is usually Mexican, with Indian and Thai food following close behind.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I love a good adrenalin rush. I love roller coasters, ghost hunting and sky diving, but I also enjoy cross- stitching and reading.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, who would it be a why? I would love to sit down with my grandma again. She passed away when I was 12 and I would love the opportunity to sit down and learn more about her and update her on my life.
