Dr. Stefani Jane Filak

I would NOT recommend Dr. Stefanie Filak in Alexandria, whom I used for my first born. The wait times were horrible, and while she was okay during the pregnancy, she really turned mean on me around the time the baby was due and was rude on the phone when I had an emergency, acting like she couldn't be bothered. She wasn't even there for the birth, but when she did get there she was rude to me and my family in the hospital. She offered to perform out son's circumcision, and wouldn't let us be in the same room, and then afterward made fun of us for choosing to circumcise. She did this in front of the nurse, who was appalled at her. But I was a glutten for punishment and after birth, I had an infection, and also thrush and called her when I was in sheer pain and she dismissed both on the phone even though I was crying on the phone and I had to later make an appointment to see another doctor who couldn't believe I had waited so long to take care of the problems. Part of me wonders if… she might have been going through a really bad life experience and just took it out on her patients because she was a real Dr. Jekel and Dr. Hyde. It was a horrible experience that unfortunately I will never forget.

Caring & professional

I was a patient of Dr. Filak's for over 23 yrs. She had an incredible bedside manner and was the most caring physician I've ever had. She always asked about my family, friends, even dog - in detail. She listened and would put your mind at ease when concerns may have arose. I was saddened she had to closer her practice due to personal issues. She is greatly missed!

I've been a patient of Dr. Filak's for years. While she is kind and pleasant, she does not spend a lot of time with you. I was willing to overlook that for some time, as some doctors lack in the area of a decent bedside manner. HOWEVER, over the past 3 years she has cancelled EVERY appointment I've made!!! Including TODAY! There is always some lofty excuse, that is often times personal and never having to do with the birth of a baby. Today she has a "bum leg - was out all last week and will be in this afternoon" - Uh, okay - she couldn't make it to my mid-morning appt, but can come in 2 hours later?!?! I am moving on to a new doc and I suggest you all do the same, as I see an obvious pattern from the statements below.

Overall I am very disappointed. I have been a clint since four years and most of the time with extra long waiting time during a visit, one time I waited for her in the exam room, and I was told to take of my cloth and wear the paper cloth just to cover my body, the air condition was on, too cold and waited 40 min for her, which I had to suffer that day with lower abdomen crams and had to cancel my afternoon activity and spend my time in bed with warmcompress. This time my appointment has been canceled and rescheduled for third time. I have been called to reschedul my appointment for fourth time, but this time I could not play this game, I quit. I can not refer anybody to her and do not want to let suffer my friends. Sorry.

I've been a patient of Dr. Filak's for a little over a year, in which time I should have seen the doctor three times. My first appointment I saw the doctor as scheduled. My second appointment was rescheduled FOUR time for various reasons. My third appointment has now been rescheduled twice, it remains to be seen if it will be rescheduled again before I actually get to see her. Dr. Filak appears to be a good doctor but I've now wasted countless hours of my leave and time...I will be looking for a new doctor.

I lived in Richmond, so when I made appointments, I would have to drive up to northern va. It wasn't helpful at all when the morning of, the staff would call and cancel because she was unable to keep the appointment.

I'm currently in the process of switching. Dr. Filak was always thorough and kind when you could actually get in the door to see her, but she cancelled on me 4 times in 3 years for various reasons including "she was up all night and will likely fall asleep during your exam", "she's at the hospital with a patient", and "another patient just went into labor". So, I understand she's a sole practitioner, but I can't deal with the instability. What's the point of making an appointment if she's not really going to keep it? I take time off of work and rearrange my schedule only to do the same thing over again in 3 months when she can finally get me in again (or says she can). Lynn in the office is nice, but she can only do so much to compensate for the doctor.

Dr. Filak does not return any of your phone calls no matter what your problem. I called several times in pain for up to 3 weeks and she never once called me back. She relies on her nursing staff to run her medical practice. I have been a patient of hers for years and it is sad to say my last office visit will be my last.

I had the same problem as the previous reviewer. There is no point to even schedule an appointment. I understand that as an OB, she gets called into the hospital for deliveries, but it happens so frequently that every appointment I have ever had with Dr. Filak had to be rescheduled because she is not available that day. She's way overbooked and can not provide prompt care to her patients.
