Dr. Stephen John Batter, MD

Horrible patient experience. As if it weren’t bad enough having health problems - to make matters worse - the person whose job it is to provide medical care, really doesn’t care about what’s in the patient’s best interest. Went to Dr. Stephen Batter after Norwalk Hospital emergency department referred me to his office (very few Urology options in Norwalk and the hospital sends business to Dr. Batter, whom previously ran the hospital’s urology department, which, perhaps not so coincidentally, falls way behind the quality of other hospitals’ urology departments in the region). Never mind the unresponsiveness from his office staff in answering calls/returning messages, etc. The real damage to the patient is directly from Dr. Batter, himself. For him, patients are just a ticket to cash insurance payments. Among all the things Dr. Batter did to make it very clear that he’s not in it for the patient (too many negatives to list all here): Dr. Batter never reviewed my test results with me; he… had no interest in discussing my treatment options - his is a take-it or leave-it attitude; he rushed through appointments to just be done with it; and he was extremely dismissive when I asked question regarding treatment options - as if the patient must just blindly follow whatever he says and does, without question. Dr. Batter is downright rude, arrogant, dismissive, and doesn’t care about what’s best for the individual patient. If you need care from a urologist for anything serious, find a urologist who actually cares - that’s NOT Dr. Stephen Batter.

A little over a year ago I was referred to Dr. Batter with a high PSA with a concern about Prostate Cancer. After examining me and looking at my records, He recommended doing nothing and just getting a new PSA in a year. A year later I got a new PSA and the level was just about the same, but since I had moved I went to a new urologist. To make a long story short. They strongly recommended more tests and after tests including MRI and Biopsy, etc. It turns out I have highly advanced Prostate Cancer which is beyond being treated with surgery, or any focal treatment as it apparently has already spread beyond the Prostate.

I will not be going back to Dr. Batter. Ever. I found him dismissive, and showed no interest in why I was there. As soon as he entered the room he told me I did not have an infection, and I told him I did. That exchange went back and forth three times before he left the room to look at the hospital report where it was confirmed I was treated for an infection. His office never called me with the results of the lab work he did and a report was never made on the Nuvance Health portal for my office visit. It was as if I was never there, and yet he had the audacity to charge my insurance $543.00 for the office visit and another $16.00 for the lab work. A total rip off... Unbelievable.

I have been a patient of Dr. Batter for many years. He is personable and has a good sense of humor. He takes a keen interest in his patients and always presents you with different options. Very easy to talk with.

Doctor Batter is an excellent surgeon and a good guy. I had TURP surgery last summer with excellent results.

I had a stone stuck in my ureter and was in a lot of discomfort. Dr Batter solved my problem quickly to get me out of the agony. Kudos to a job well done!

Although extremely busy, dr b took the time to explain treatment options for my bladder cancer. I am now cancer free!

Dr. Batter is a very busy doctor but took the time to explain to my wife and I my bladder cancer and treated me appropriately and with compassion
