Dr. Stephen Scelsa, MD

He looked in my mouth and winced in horror at all my silver fillings but never told me the danger I was in. When I found out they all had mercury in them I was dumbstruck and only until I got all of them removed did the tremors stop. I still have atrophied and now severe spinal stenosis.

While I initially felt Dr. Scelsa gave me time to give my history, when my tests came back normal for an issue I've been having for almost two years, he seemed to insinuate that I was not trying hard enough with physical therapy etc. and that this was only thing going on. I explained to him that I have been doing rigorous physical therapy for nearly two years and that if that had been the solution, I wouldn't be talking to him. He was very dismissive and had the audacity to suggest that I wasn't giving my best effort during his examination of me. He also said that I needed to take a medication I need to breathe more sparingly – as though I and my doctors are not all trying our best to get me off of it. Just an overall very upsetting experience. It might not ultimately be a neuromuscular issue, but I'm certainly not at fault for failing to get better.

I owe my spiraling downhill fast uphill speedy recovery to Dr. Scelsa. He is one of the best Doctors I’ve encountered in my life. He is professional, knowledgeable and thorough. I can honestly say I owe my ability to walk again without the use of any mobility device to him.

Visited Dr. Scelsa a few months back and found him to be very thorough and knowledgeable. I felt like he took sufficient time to answer my questions and is truly a specialist in his field. I would definitely recommend him.

Dr Scelsa was distracted. He complained about reimbursements for office visits but said he could make it up in testing. Talked about retirement and court testifying as his future goals. Perhaps he was just tired.

His office is inexplicably not high-functioning, You can call at 9:15 a.m and you get an answering machine. Therefore it's become very frustrating to try to speak to the doctor about any pressing question. Sometimes I leave my message, and get a call back 2 or 3 days later. Dr. Scelsa specializes in Neuro-muscular disorders, and is very knowledgeable about those diseases, especially ALS.

Doctor is very good but never on time for appointments. Wait time can be more than an hour past your scheduled time

I spent an hour today with Dr Scelsa. He is extremely professional highly intelligent and a most thorough clinician. One goes to a specialist for his knowledge in his field of medicine, and not for any other reason. My rating is a my judgment of Dr Scelsa's skills and that's exactly why I went to see him. His interactive style is subtle but warm;I perceive a keen sense of humor and a muted but real warmth towards patients.

In spite of repeated requests over several months, nothing was ever sent to me or to my principal physician. When my podiatrist mentioned doing his EMG and NTV texts, I felt embarrassed to reply that they were already done but I didn't have though I think I should, as required by law. No responses to telephone reminders nor to my offer to physically visit again his office to pick them up. MAY I WISH THAT THIS DOCTOR, WHO SEEMED TO BE A GOOD GUY, HAD MORE RESPECT FOR HIS OWN WORK?

I was referred to Dr Scelsa by the top Neuro-opthalmologist at Mt. Sinai for my MG condition. Dr. Scelsa is not a big talker--he's quiet, caring, and absolutely the most knowledgeable about the latest treatments, research, etc for Myasthenia Gravis. He also is very good about returning your calls ( he calls me after hours to answer all my questions,) as I am 89 years old and ,living in Brooklyn, cannot make extensive visits to his office in Manhattan).
