Dr. Stephen Shoemaker, MD

Dr. Shoemaker performed micro fracture surgery on my knee 1 year ago. He was very thorough in his diagnosis and explained my options effectively. The follow up and coordination with my physical therapist were a key to my recovery. 1 year later I’m back doing the long 3 mile walks I enjoy with my dog and am enjoying a healthy lifestyle. I highly recommend Dr. Shoemaker as an orthopedic Doctor. Remember it’s not just your Doctor you have to do your part in PT as well. Bendt Norby

I am grateful to have met Dr. Shoemaker. He renewed the hope/faith there are some amazing Drs in the area who lead with ethical integrity. In my case he put the quality of care before the limits of an insurance company. Honestly there is a lot more to this experience and he was amazing from start to finish. As far as medical assessment he was on the mark did a great job. I highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in a quality repair.

This doctor might be a great surgeon but he horrible at diagnosing. He does not listen to patients which is one reason for the poor diagnosis. i suffered in pain for a few years until I switched to another doctor that diagnosis me correctly.... I as well known someone else that he did not do proper medical care.... To fix,that patient would need surgery..... I sorry this doctor I do not trust at all.

This is 2013 and I am only writing now because I read the one "horrible" review. I met Shoe 15 years ago after tearing out a patella tendon on the near by cliffs, and Steve happened to be in charge of emergencies that day. Subsequently (all due to aspartame), over time, have needed 1 rotator cuff/biceps surgery, and 2 meniscus tear repairs. He is hard to see quickly, and I have waited several weeks in the past to schedule needed surgery. Steve is very precise as to be sure any surgery is needed, and has correctly diagnosed either physical therapy or no surgery (my other rotator cuff just would not stay repaired} rather than do any procedure that I otherwise really wanted done. I WILL TOTALLY RECOMMEND STEPHEN SHOEMAKER with my highest regards in all respects whatsoever. I have had 4 surgeries over my lifetime, and I will helpfully criticize sharply whenever I see anything truly the matter. Likewise I will offer specific praise and compliments where I feel they are due. Meeting Shoe in… the emergency room 15 years ago is one of the luckiest events that could have happened to me. He is competent, balanced, and truly tries to help were needed without performing unneeded work.

I had a very negative experience with this doctor. He did not show professionalism, was berating, and misdiagnosed my injury. I would not recommend him to a friend.

Dr. Shoemaker (A.K.A. Shoe) has repaired my shoulder and my knee. He has a great since of humor and does amazing work. it is a 2 hour drive for me to get to his office and there are orthopedics 3 miles from my house and I would gladly drive the 2 hours. He has done a great job for me and I would highly recommend him.
