Dr. Steven J. Bielski, MD

Upon meeting Dr. Bielski all appeared well and good. Then came a research of more in depth findings on Hashimoto Disease (hypo) as a result of 4 nodules in my throat. He regulates my medication. Then came the fact that Thyroid disease also spills over into eye disease and problems, sometimes. Since I developed a double vision in one eye a year and a half ago, I sought advice from Dr. Bielski, 2022. Shocked he wanted me to see my General Practioner instead. Did not want me to come in. I felt he handled the issue of my confidence in him poorly. 2022. Very disappointed.

Takes the time to talk to you and very experienced in Endocrinology.

After meeting Dr. Bielski, I thought he was a very milk toast type of individual. After several meetings, he seemed to warm up and we have had a good relationship since. He is very thorough with his examination and explanations of my conditions. Since losing weight, I no longer am a diabetic and no longer take medication.

Dr. Bielski is an absolutely fantastic doctor. I have been diabetic for 20 years, and made the mistake of leaving him for a short time because I had moved and didn't want to make the drive to Geneva. That was a HUGE mistake, and I quickly went back. He has controlled my diabetes so well that I have had A1c results comparable to someone without diabetes. He was one of the first physicians to aggressively embrace pump therapy, and his knowledge of managing diabetes is like no other. He is extremely caring and always concerned. I can't imagine seeing any other doctor for this condition. Now, for the few negatives. He used to be on his own but since, due to pressure from the changing industry, thanks to cut-throat insurance companies and now the Obama-care disaster, he is part of a group. I am not a fan of the Cadance physician group he is part of, which just became part of the Northwestern Medicine group. I think the office staff is a bit disorganized. Because Dr. Bielski is so… good, I look over it though. I also don't like the answering service. It used to be that back in the day anyone could call the office, have a human answer, and get immediate assistance from the office staff you knew from being a long standing patient. Our modern times have ruined that, however. It's not his fault and its something I have just had to deal with; its the same no matter where you go. As far as the complainers that he won't fill their prescription, they aren't telling the whole story. If you don't schedule an appointment to see him for an extended period of time he won't just re-up your prescription until you make an appointment. He will then fill your prescription to get you through till your appointment. It's his license on the line, and he does that because he does care. Its not a free for all where you can see him once and get a lifetime of prescription refills without ever going back. Also, those complaining didn't mention the office has a policy that when you need a prescription refill they prefer you have your pharmacy call. I believe they got tired of all the idiots trying to fill their prescriptions at 11 at night at the 24 hour pharmacy, hence the charge to authorize after office hours prescription refills. If you are a diabetic you know long in advance, with plenty of time, that you need to get a refill/ authorization. It's not that difficult, or unreasonable, to get your prescription for this type of maintenance medication authorized during office hours. I believe for bonafide/ legitimate situations they will waive the charge. Lastly, Dr. Bielski has a very quiet and mild-mannered personality. If you want a pushy, in your face kind of doctor then he probably isn't for you. I can see how some people might mistake his reserved personality for lack of caring/ interest, but this is the furthest from the truth. It is because of Dr. Bielski that I have been able to remain so healthy after 20 years of this serious condition. He is highly respected and renowned for his success in treating diabetes. Due to the fact that he is so extraordinary, make an appointment early though. He is generally booked up about three (3) months out, but once you get into the rotation it's not an issue. From a 20 year type I diabetic, I know; you won't find a better endocrinologist anywhere.

Can't get this guy to refill scripts.I have run out of medication on several occasions.I am looking to replace this guy because he does not listen and is just going through the motions like he's on automatic pilot.

I gave him several visits and never developed any trust in what he was telling me. Ended up being my own Doctor and gave up. Still having issues so moving on to another Doctor.

I went twice to his office for treatment of my thyroid. He never listened to my symptoms and concerns. I asked for a specific blood test and he refused to order it for me. My symptoms continued to get worse and he wouldn't listen and instead scheduled a follow up for 6 months AND did not refill my prescription. Having a thyroid condition, I need daily medication to keep it under control. Calling the office is a joke. They only answer phones (and by answering I mean an automated system to leave a message) 3.5 hours a day. AND if you leave a request for a Rx refill outside of those hours they will bill you $15!! I would never recommend this office and particularly this doctor.

Does not spend time with you.And shows no compassion!

Dr. Steven Bielski's office would not renew my prescription for insulin. I am a diabetic!!! I'm a patient of Dr. Karas (from same office) who was on maternity leave. I had been in to see the Dr. Karas approximately 4 months earlier. They never change my dosage or insuling (except once many years earlier to a much more expansive insulin), I never get any type of advice to help control it. I explained I no longer have insurance and I was just in a few months earlier. They didn't care. They would not renew the prescription. They only give a 3 month prescription at a time so that I have to spend $200+ on a 5 minute appointment and $200 on lab work. UNETHICAL!!!! I don't think Dr. Beilski or anyone in his office should decide if I should live or die.
