Dr. Steven Brooks Care, MD

I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. I've been seeing a Rheumatologist for a decade. My hands are severely deformed. Dr. Murdock at St. Luke's Orthopedics wanted to get me scheduled for surgery as soon as he saw my x-rays and examined my hands. At the time, I had 2 knee replacements coming up, so I had to wait. I recently called Dr. Murdock's office to get my hands fixed. It is extremely difficult to do anything with them. I found out he was retiring, so I tried to make an appointment with Dr. Care. since he is in the same office and my experience with St. Luke's Orthopedics has always been positive. Supposedly, after seeing my records, Dr. Care said no and he wanted to send me to go see a Rheumatologist. That was the reason I was told I was being denied an appointment. I was confused, because in the 10 years I've been seeing a Rheumatologist I have never been offered a drug that will straighten out my hands. I'm just told they are getting worse every 3 or 4 months I come in… for an appointment. Sending 10 years of medical records to Dr. Care did not make a difference. I was still denied an appointment. I also have full coverage insurance, yet I was still denied an appointment. I have never seen Dr. Care; but I'm bewildered at the fact another surgeon wanted immediately wanted to operate on me and the average person on the street can can how debilitating the deformities in my hands are. The fact that I am in serious need of medical care and Dr. Care won't even have me come in for a consultation is disturbing to me. "May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help." Does the Hippocratic Oath mean anything anymore?

Dr. Care is a wonderful doctor, he takes the Time to listen to you and he takes the Time to figure out the best solution.

Dr. Care repaired a tendon in my left little finger. The surgery and aftercare were great and I have good use of my finger. The scar is nearly nonexistant.

I have seen Dr. Care for 2 broken bones and cyst removal. I felt that he did the proper assessment for my injuries and provided great treatment. All 3 times, he walked me through the injury, the treatment, risks, and benefits and even discussed other potential precautions to take (since I was pregnant and your tendons/ligaments loosen). He took great care of me and is the only Dr. I will let work on my arms/hands.

Three surgeries on my right hand. Wanted to do another. I found out only one was needed. I now have to have another surgery from another Doctor to fix the first and third surgery.

Both my husband and I have had wrist and elbow surgeries done by Dr. Care with excellent results. Two other doctors told my husband he would have to wear a cast for up to a year for his broken wrist. Dr. Care repaired the wrist and my husband was back to normal in six weeks! I had chronic pain in my elbow that another doctor had treated for over a year. Dr. Care knew exactly what the problem was and he promptly resolved it with an outpatient surgery. Pain gone! Likewise with my carpel tunnel release. We think his "bedside manner" is great too. I hadn't seen him in years and he remembered what we'd talked about the last time. Dr. Care is serious about what he does and he does it well. You will be in good hands in the operating room, and that's what really counts when you select a surgeon.

I really don't care as much about wait time as I do skill and personality. Dr. Care is a little hard to get an appointment with, but I think that may be due to his skill as a surgeon.

I was able to schedule an appt. and get in quickly.Dr. Care was excellent. He described my injury and my x-rays. He then covered the possibilities of what would happen with or without surgery and made it very obvious and clear what would be in my best interest to do.He described everything to me in a way I could easily understand, and then covered what I would expect in the future.I received an approx. cost estimate that was accurate (Received the bill from Insurance afterwards)I highly recommend Dr. Care.

The office was nice, the staff was relatively nice. I did not care for Dr. Care at all. He didn't listen to anything i had to say. When he would ask me a question, before I had even answered he interrupted me or just walked out of the room. He acted very annoyed that I was even there. Definitely not happy and would not go back.

Seemed very in a hurry and put out that I was there. Would not even return a smile. Clearly does not enjoy his time with patients.
