Dr. Steven Lee Godfrey, MD

When I got pregnant with my second daughter, I chose Dr.Godfrey as my OB because all reviews said excellent things about him. However I eventually switched doctor. Here are the reasons: He never took his time and spent no more than 5 mins every appointment even though I had concerns about my pregnancy. He was always in a rush. When I was 6 weeks pregnant, I was bleeding so I went to the emergency room. I was told by another doctor that I was in risk of a miscarriage. After that, the bleeding stopped but I had always strong pressure in my belly and often felt pain. So much that I couldn’t walk for more than 15 mins. Despite this he always told me that everything was normal. He never checked me or did an ultrasound to check if everything was ok. At 22weeks pregnant, I had strong contractions and a little bit more bleeding. I went to see him the next morning, and all he did was to check if I was dilating (by the way, how he checked me was super painful). Since I was not… dilating, he simply said “it’s normal to have contractions especially since it’s your second pregnancy.” I asked him if I should take it easy or should be in bed rest, he told me ‘bed rest doesn’t make any difference. You can even do exercises’. Total time he spent with me was less than 5 mins again. At that point, I felt that I needed a doctor who cares more and addresses concerns. I then switched to Midwife Tessa Yates at the woman’s clinic. (She’s excellent!) On the First appointment, she did an ultrasound and found out I had only 0.7cm cervix. (Average length is 4cm). That meant the baby might be born anytime. She immediately sent me to the hospital in Fort Worth to see if they could do surgery to tie my cervix up but the doctor told me that I was already 22weeks so it was too late to do the surgery. I cried hard because if I had switched the doctor earlier or if I chose a different doctor, I could have gotten the surgery and the baby could be in a better circumstance. Because I was too late for the surgery I was hospitalized in Fort Worth for 2 months. I was discharged from the hospital at 32 weeks pregnant and gladly, I’m still pregnant. I am so glad that I switched the doctor and I’m so scared to think if I had just listened Dr.Godfrey, the baby would have been born extremely premature. Based on my experience i would highly NOT recommend him.

I have been going to Dr. Godfrey for 20 yrs and he has always made me feel like he has the time to spend with me answering any questions I may have. His "bedside manner" is great! I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a caring Dr. plus he has a good sense of humor. Wish all Doctors would be as caring as Dr. Godfrey!

Dr Godfrey was my ob and delivered my son 17 years ago I still go to him for my gynelogical annual checkups. He is the best ob i could have asked for. He is wonderful .

I had a difficult pregnancy (high risk and preterm labor). He provided excellent care and was very knowledgeable. He guided me so that I was able to deliver a healthy baby near term!
