I would trust Dr. Schenkel with my life.

I am stunned by the negative reviews ratings. This is not the Dr. Schenkel that I know and trust. has been my psychiatrist for years. He always takes time with me, prescribed the right medications for ADHD and depression, and has made adjusted as needed in response to my symptoms. He is also the only doctor who was able to effectively treat my 90 year old father’s insomnia.

I am perplexed and shocked by the negative reviews. Dr. Schenkel has been our family’s psychiatrist for many years. He has helped me with depression and ADHD, and my son for ADHD as well. He always takes time with us. I have never felt rushed. He has made medication changes when necessary. He actually Talks and Listens, does more than medication management. When my 90 year old father was unable to sleep, Dr. Schenkel was the only doctor who figured out the right medication to help him.

I’m and have been Dr. Schenkel's patient for the last four years and I can tell you that he is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met. He is always willing to listen to your problems, does not treat you like a patient but like a human that has problems, very compassionate and professional. I have recommended him to family members and friends. Note: I have seen other doctors but most of the one I have consulted they just want you in and out.

Dr Schenkel has a terrible bedside manner, he is rude, curt, and mocked me for the way I tried to describe my symptoms. I have seen several psychiatrists as I’ve been taking an antidepressant for many years, and I have never felt so discounted and belittled during an initial appointment. Here I am, discussing all of my symptoms and childhood traumas and this guy is snapping at me and making fun. Still, I got the script I needed, so I decided to just suck it up and come back so that I didn’t have to start over with someone else. Many of Dr Schenkel’s yelp reviews point out how obsessed he is with making patient’s insurance pay. I wasn’t worried though because he was in my network and my eligibility to be covered had been double checked by both me and the doctor’s (rude and unnecessarily curt) receptionist. He lied about not being paid and spent my next appointment haranguing me about how much he could run on my card immediately. Turns out, my insurance HAD paid.

I didn’t want to give any stars but it was required to even be able post this. He is terribly unreliable and irresponsible. He will prescribe you medicine he knows is not good for you and then will ignore all of your phone calls and emails. Worst of all he is a PERVERT. I’m not comfortable going into detail here but he attempted to take advantage of me, a very young (19 at the time), naive woman who was struggling with trauma and thought she was being treated by someone she could trust. He added to my trauma and made me completely untrusting of all men and therapists/psychiatrists. It took me almost 4 years to get comfortable with the idea of trying to see a different therapist and psychiatrist and to open up about my experiences. I’ve wanted to report him several times but I’ve been discouraged and told that it would be “my word against his and the chances of me being believed aren’t very high”. It hurts so much that I feel like he won’t get what he deserves but more than anything, I… feel like I need to warn people. I feel it’s even more important to warn others as he works with kids and adolescents. Please, especially if you are a woman or have young children (especially daughters) that you are thinking of sending to a pyschiatrist never, ever go to him. I wish I had spoken out so much sooner but there were several factors that prevented me from doing so. Please beware of this man. Never, ever go to him.

Spends 5 minutes most with you. His receptionist is really hard to get a hold of and rude when trying to make an appt. Claims he is always booked at least 4 weeks in advanced. How many patients is he pumping out a day at 5 mins each.

I suppose it's because he takes insurance that he feels he's underpaid, so he spends ten minutes, if even with his patient and doesn't not return calls or pages until the next day if even. A most unpleasant man. Easy to get an appointment because he's so awful.

Dr. Steven Schenkel is a very good doctor. He loves and is committed to his medical career. He loves to study and update himself on the latest medicines. I find him to be smart, astute, diligent in finding the right medicine for my condition. Because of it, I have a thriving career as an accountant for the past 10 years. Thank you for your hard work, doctor! I could not have done it without you. Your loyal patient.

Took me in later than my scheduled appointment time. Turned out to be rude, unprofessional. Didn't care to get to know me. Only worried if he will be paid by insurance or me. Didn't even try to keep me as a patient. I was leaving his office with tears. If you can, look for a different doctor.
