Dr. Steven Alexander Weisblatt, MD

I strongly advise against seeing Dr. Weisblatt. I saw him for 9 months. He is a terrible listener, obnoxious and arrogant. He believes he can easily diagnose and cure anyone. He ironically doesn't seem to understand the complexity of moods or how different drugs effect different people. He has a one size fits all approach without any room for nuance. I also find his billing practices shady. I would characterize the amount of money and time I spent with him as a total waste except for the fact that I learned a valuable lesson. People who behave as it they have all the answers and that everyone else is wrong should always be a giant red flag.

Diagnosed me before I even met him. He had a PowerPoint presentation on Biplolar that he started a minute after I sat down. I was referred to him with depressed symptoms and eating disorder symptoms. He told me my eating disorder was the mania part of bipolar, and tried to put me on meds for that. Now I do have other conditions, but I don't happen to have bipolar. Fortunately I could see through him and did not continue to see him after my first appointment, because he seemed very off.

This doctor immediately diagnosed me as bipolar within 5 min of meeting me, which I may be many things but bipolar I’m not. Before and after him I’ve never been diagnosed as bipolar. Immediately started me on lithium and an anti psycotic. Then when that wasn’t working well enough he added another pill that made me break out in a rash all over my body. He also diagnosed my mother with bipolar and somehow made her his patient too when it was just supposed to be me. He put us both on lithium, her thyroid is messed up still (this was in 2015) When lithium didn’t work he kept adding pills. He had me on such a high dose of gabapentin that another psychiatrist literally gasped. I gained 90lbs from it. I finally decided on my own to cut my gabapentin in half and immediately lost 20lbs. I started feeling better and 3 months later stopped seeing him. He did end up saving my life about 5 months after I started with him which is why I gave 2 stars. I was about 3 weeks away from dying. He insisted… on meeting weekly and letting appts run so long and having blood tests weekly as well. He was very condescending and rude to my mother and my grandmother (who he also diagnosed with bipolar) but he seemed to have a soft spot for me and treated me very well.

Dr. Weisblatt is a brilliant diagnostician, a very smart and astute psychiatrist and a life saver. I have used him for treatment and have referred others to him. I don’t understand who the person is who has posted negative reviews about Dr. Weisblatt but I assure you he is ethical, caring, warm, sincere and an excellent doctor.

I experienced all of the negative things that people who wrote before me did. He diagnosed me before I sat down and then constantly created a narrative to fit his diagnosis. He put me on meds after one meeting and pushed me to keep increasing the dosage. Everything I said was wrong and he forced my spouse to come to all appointments, which he dragged out to be two hours each. All my other doctors were wrong according to the genius Dr Weisblatt. He berated me constantly and never listened to what I had to say. He would take phone calls during our sessions which I found terribly disrespectful. I just went to see another psychiatrist today and he said that everything this Weisblatt did and the way he behaved we inappropriate and is taking me off the meds. I am debating on reporting him to the state and trying to get my money back. Two words of advice - stay away.

This man is a bipolar expert whatever that is however talk to him for 5 mins and you will see a very insecure boy who suffers from his own issue he has the narcissistic personality disorder he is never wrong and will prove it at all costs even if it hurts the patent. Phamisiats hate him he feels he can call and demand a prescription at any time rather than write one.H e belittles all people doctors included to make himself look superior and he takes no insurance so he can overcharge and hide money from us internal revenue. this guy is a gem I gained 50 pounds due to his malpractice at the amazingly low price of 325 a session .. I get treated by my GP and now lost the weight and live a normal life ...stay away from this man who needs a psychiatrist may be a narcissist expert whatever that is lol

This doctor makes unfair statements about people that are potentially very harmful.

He misdiagnosed me and a family member (as confirmed by 2 other doctors), incorrectly prescribed medicine that also had a predictably negative effect (per neurologist), was arrogant, condescending & unethical by (incorrectly) predicting a serious condition in order to keep me as a patient.

Told me I was diseased over the phone reaching out to find progressive doctors to handle my bipolar. I wouldn't touch this guy with a 100 foot pole. Stay away if you are looking for limited medication and trying to deal with your certain disorder in the most natural way possible with diet and exercise.

What an awful experience. As you read reviews online you will notice a clear pattern of behavior. He misdiagnosis his patients with bi-polar. He belittles and yells at his patients. He’s condescending towards other doctors. He uses scare tactics to keep you on an insane amount of medicine which makes his patients unable to function. My current doctors have been so supportive and have had great empathy for all I have been through with Dr. Weisblatt.
