Struan Coleman MD, PhD, is a world-renowned, board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip preservation and sports medicine at HSS. Dr. Coleman specializes in the treatment of hip impingement and hip labrum tears. Dr. Coleman is one of the early pioneers in the use of hip arthroscopy to treat hip impingement (FAI) and uses the latest surgical techniques, including labrum reconstruction, in order to get his patients back in the game. After earning his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Coleman received a D.Phil in Microbiology from Oxford University, England. He completed both his residency in Orthopedic Surgery and a fellowship in Sports Medicine at HSS. During his fellowship, Dr. Coleman worked as an assistant physician for the New York Giants football team and a team physician for the New York Mets baseball team. Dr. Coleman focuses on the treatment and management of sports related injuries of the hip, knee, and shoulder, with a particular …interest in hip arthroscopy and hip preservation. In his practice, he treats young, athletic patients with hip pathology; in addition, he has performed arthroscopic surgery on many high level athletes with hip problems, including NFL players from the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, and Washington Red Skins. Dr. Coleman also combines his clinical practice with research relating to the fields of hip arthroscopy and sports medicine, and he has published numerous articles and written chapters in those fields. Dr. Coleman holds numerous patents for technologies that are utilized by sports medicine physicians and surgeons. Most recently, he patented the technology behind the MyMotive knee strengthening Rehabilitation System, which is used to treat quadriceps atrophy and knee pain. Dr. Coleman is the founder of MyMotive Orthopedics and he is on the board of the company.

I had a hip arthroscopy by Dr. Coleman. He was great from start to finish. He answered all of my questions. He explained my condition and how it would be handled. his staff and the staff at HSS were amazing. I would highly recommend him for anyone with a hip issue.
