Dr. Sung Hyon, MD

Incredibly unprofessional, rude and literally asked “what do you have to be depressed for?” when I spoke on my trauma. He kept pushing the idea that I have borderline personality so I took a psych exam on his request and he was wrong. I was diagnosed with bi polar, ADD & APD. A different psychologist conducted the exam over a 2 month period. I came back to him, he misgenders me again and makes another weird comment on what neighborhood I live in then says he won’t treat me for any of the things the psychologist diagnosed me with. He thinks I just have depression and that “everyone procrastinates”. He thinks that the psychologist and myself are lying and wants to prescribe me a third antidepressant. This man hates being wrong, gaslights his patients and works off his own assumptions rather than facts. Do not go to him for care, he’s only here to pick up a check & to judge people living a life that he could never. I have no idea why he works in this field. He seems miserable and looks… like a wreck every time I see him.

I never review doctors and came across this site while looking for a psychiatrist for a family member in another city. Dr. Hyon is my doctor, and has been for months. After reading the earlier comments about Dr. Hyon "making assumptions and not having enough time" with patients, I have to strongly disagree with this reviewer. Yes, Dr. Hyon works in an outpatient clinic which serves the underprivileged and underinsured in the community. I have no idea how many patients he is responsible for, but I do know the clinic he works in serves a very large geographical area. Despite this, myself (and other's...yeah we talk in the waiting room), always feel we are taken seriously and there is always follow up. He responds to calls promptly, and in the case of an acquaintance who has been in chronic pain for years (and consequently very depressed) told me she felt validated for the first time in her life after seeing Dr. Hyon.

Dr. Hyon is personable but makes a lot of assumptions instead of asking you directly 'how you feel". Depressed and hopeless people are accustomed to putting on a sociable acceptable face for the world....due to psychiatric stigma. He just writes down that "all is well and hopeful" when that couldn't be further from the truth. He works in a clinic atmosphere so I guess that is to be expected. He's fine for the standard, I have been doing fine on a med and just need a script, type interaction. Anything more than that he just doesn't have the time for.
