Dr. Susan Kay Devitt, MD

My daughter sought out a new psychiatrist to prescribe medication for her PTSD & anxiety following a sexual assault after having issues resulting in the need for a formal complaint of unethical behavior with her last psychiatrist. She chose Dr. Devitt thinking that she was both a woman as well as located close to home and a good possible fit. WRONG! Instead of listening to what was needed, a psychiatrist to continue the medication which she was currently taking and worked well to help her manage her treatment. We only needed a new doctor who could prescribe the medication regimen which was proven to be most beneficial for her care. Instead, unbeknown to me.. this arrogant woman prescribed different medications, changing her medication to a drug which is noted in her record as being something which she didn't tolerate and made her ill!! I will never understand why my daughter (who is 20, diagnosed as being mildly autistic and easily intimidated by bullies) allowed this to happen.… The medication Seroquel can cause dizziness, headaches, tremors, and a host of other issues. When my daughter began to experience dizziness and shaking she called this unprofessional excuse for a medical doctor and reported that she felt this was due to the medication, as was noted in her medical records which this woman supposedly reviewed - after all she did ASK my child why she had stopped taking it.. she had the gall to YELL at my daughter on the phone, claim that the drug does not cause those side-effect (google search it. It's also listed in the documentation they give you from CVS!) and then hung up on her!! Never in my LIFE have I ran into such a bevy of utterly incompetent, unprofessional and DANGEROUS doctors as we have encountered since moving back to Virginia. Do not trust Dr. Susan S. Devitt.

Saw her for years. She was one of the only doctors who sat and talked to me. Other ones just wanted to throw medicine at me. I drove 5hrs many times to see her after my exhusband (husband at the time) was restationed in the military. I really felt like she cared and the medicine she prescribed worked. It’s been almost 5 years since I’ve seen her and every doctor I have seen here can not get my records. She is impossible to get ahold of.

Dr. Devitte is one of the best doctors I could have found for my son. She works well with him in discussing what issues need to be resolved and what will work best to help him achieve his goals. I even changed over to her, she is an absolute pleasure to work with and really listens and add compassion to every situation and visit.

Dr Susan Devitt is an absolutely AMAZING doctor and I would recommend her to anyone.

Dr devitt is not a psychiatrist, her husband is, but her license is in pediatrics and not psychiatry. She does not know which medications are compatible for treatment or which medications will cause adverse reactions. She believes that all side effects of medication can be controlled by an additional medication until your child is a walking pharmacy. She completely wants to undo any other treatments by licensed psychiatrists and wreaks havoc with any treatment. Save yourselves and your children lots of anguish and do not seek treatment from her. It will only cause turmoil and lead to further issues with your children. Dr susan devitt is not a psychiatrist and if ahe wants to actually become one, she should continue with furthering her education. Also, she does not have any children of her own and has absolutely no idea how to treat any psychiatric disorders in children. She would rather over medicate children and also does not have any therapy experience and believes that love alone… will cure any child that has behavior issues.

They are only prompt because Dr. Devitt wants your money.

Given a medication for my condition and after a period of time, found the medication was working for me. I asked Dr. Susan Devitt how to proceed and was told "That's it. You're taking the max dose of the medication and there's nothing else to do". Seriously? There's only 1 medication on the market for a common condition? I think she's either incapable of diagnosing me or wasn't willing to take the time to work with me to correct my condition. Waste of time and money.....
