Dr. Suzanne Marie Shorten

She should have chosen another area of the medical field. Not a people person.

Have been going to Wyncote Family Medicice for over 20 years. When Doctor Shorten arrived I decided to try her and now call her my Doctor...She is smart believes in working on health with exercise, good food and great state of mind. Awesome Doctor............

I had a terrible experience with Dr.Shorten. I had Pneumonia, I knew I had pneumonia because I just had it the year before and knew it was the same symptoms: wheezing, coughing up fluid, etc. I went to the office, explain how I felt and said I felt it was Pneumonia. She didn't believe me and insisted it was an Upper Respiratory Infection and refused to give me antibiotics. I went back a couple days later feeling even worse. Again she insisted that it was an Upper Respiratory Infection, refused me antibiotics, but said if I really felt she was wrong I can go an get an Xray done (in a rather you're wrong and I'm going to prove it to you matter) So I go to get an Xray done, mind you at this point I'm feeling like death. And the next day she calls me apologizing saying I have Pneumonia and finally I get the antibiotics I needed a week prior. She made me suffer for a entire week longer then I needed to. Because she waited so long, it got worse and it took me a month to get back to 100%.… DO NOT GO TO HER! All the other doctors in that practice are great, even the nurse practitioner they had was more knowledgeable and caring then her. Use this office, but avoid Dr. Shorten.

My appointements with Dr. Shorten have been characteristically knowledgeable, thorough, comfortable, and she has been a person very easy to which I can discuss my medical issues. She is very down to earth without any of the egotistical attitude often associated with those in the medical community. In that regard she is a refreshing physician to visit.

What can I say. She saved my life twice -- really!

I have been seeing Dr. Shorten since i moved to Wyncote 7 years ago. I see her every 3 months. She gives me excellent care and listens to my concerns. She take the time to get to know you and your life. She has excellent follow up and calls to over tests and discusses the results.

This is by far the worst doctor in the world! She is very, very, very inconsiderate and does not care at all about her patients....you know, the people who keep her employed with a pay check! She walks into the room like she hates that you are there and that you are so bothersome to her! If you are allotted 30 mins for more than just a check up, she rushes you out there and has a problem with answering questions....simple questions that you are suppose to ask your doctor, and the point of my appointment in the first place! Her attitude is very nasty and I don't know why she is allowed to practice being a doctor...she needs to go to classes on how to treat people! It seems that she brings her personal problems from home to work and takes it out on patients, she is a very miserable person and I am looking to switch doctors ASAP! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND DR. SUZANNE SHORTEN!

My experience with the Wyncote Family office has been excellent from the time I started going there 4 years ago. Dr. Shorten is my primary physician and has always given me the best care. She's kind, compassionate, caring, she listens. The staff has always treated me well. When I call for referalls they"re always there. I've never had to dispute this office about one thing. Everyone (except Dr. Weiss) has great bedside manner and have always been very repectful. I love Dr. Shorten as my doctor and as a person.

Unlike another reviewer, I was and have always been very pleased with Dr Shorten. She cares for my husband, my children and myself. In my experience she listens and explains things fully. She is great with children and patient. She, very recently, saw my son last minute and helped avoid a serious health issue. I have never had to wait to get an appointment and am not rushed once I am there. I would strongly recommend her to anyone.

At first I loved it. I was seen faster than at any other doctor's office I've been to. However, after my second appointment (with Dr. Shorten), I got hit will an unexpected lab bill for about $180 for tests I had no idea were done... I'll try to make a long story short. The doctor ordered extra tests without asking or at least telling me (if she had, I would have declined, because I know the tests are not covered by my insurance and I could get the same tests for free or cheaper at my student health center. Plus she didn't listen to my thoughts on the symptoms she was concerned about... which by the way I turned out to be right about, confirmed by another doctor). When I complained about the bill, the office denied having ordered the test, so I asked the lab to fax back over the order form which very obviously showed that they had ordered the extra tests. Then they changed their tune and said they had ordered the tests because it was standard of care. So one of those was a lie,… obviously. Plus, I've been to other doctors for the same type of care and some have offered these tests, but not without asking me and letting me check with my insurance first, and giving me the opportunity to decline the tests. I don't doubt that some people have great experiences here because my first appointment was great. However, between not being treated like an intelligent person who has some idea of her own body during the appointment and having to pay a sum that is actually a considerable hardship for me, not to mention being lied to and jerked around on top of it - it was a huge waste of time - I would be very cautious here.
