Dr. Swarna Varma, MD

Dr Varma, expect to wait a while in the office. It is frustrating but worth the wait. She is very thorough and goes over your history every visit. She does not sugar coat anything tells you straight up about you habits. She does refer you to other doctors, but this is to keep you healthy. When you have diabetes it affects all of your organs.

Zero stars. Very rude and doesn't listen at all. Plan to be in the office for 3 hours, too.

I have been seeing Dr. Varma for 5 years now. The first couple were frustrating due to wait times. However, the longer I stay with her, the more I love her. She is probably the best Endocrine doctor you will find in the area and she is brilliant. I finally asked if I could begin calling before my appointment time to see if she was running behind or on time. I call every 30 minutes to see if I am close to being seen. I live about 20 minutes from her office and will head down when she is seeing patients that were scheduled right before me. Now that I have this system worked out with her staff, I don't mind waiting to ensure I get to see her. I will continue seeing Dr. Varma for as long as I am in the South Western PA area.

Very pleasant & concerned doctor.

I have been in the situation to have to wait for Dr. Varma as I have read in other reviews . She is well worth the wait . She is a brilliant, although she has her quirks . Sometimes I feel she could improve her listening skills. I don't know any other doctor that would require you to call in your blood sugar readings every week, reviews and advises if changes are needed . She is willing to help you with samples of medication when your insurance makes your copay outrageous.

Poor time management skills, staff does not want to be there, nor do they return calls. One staff member answered the phone "What" really professional. Too tired so when you have a 5 pm appointment and she finally comes in your room at 8:45 pm, I'm talking the office, she is often confrontational and accusatory. She could be a great MD, just tooo many down sides. I have switched.

This wonderful doctor saved my life twice and I'm not exaggerating! May have long wait to see her but she is a terrific endocrinologist and not a lot of them around. Ill definitely wait however long it takes to get the treatment need.

The wait time is ridiculous. Dr Varma is thorough but the waiting time is 100 times longer than the time spent with me as a patient. It is hard to appreciate her when you're blood pressure goes up and you are angry about the wait. And she is not very nice about it.

Should have known wait was going to be long when nurse gave us 4 page article on doctor/patient relationships to read while waiting for doc! Waited 2+ hours...doc spent 12 mins...did not listen...just ordered tests...said it was vitamins causing hyperthyroid...but there's no iodine in my vitamins!
