Dr. Takanori Fukushima, MD

After an ER doctor accidentally found a tumor deep inside my brain, they referred me to Raleigh Neurosurgical Clinic. Thankfully the tumor was benign and slow growing. Due to the location of the brain tumor, I was referred to Dr. Takanori Fukushima who is a world renowned brain surgeon and teacher specializing in many different types of brain tumors. Given his knowledge and years of experience, I was positive and very confident Dr. Fukushima was the only surgeon to remove the tumor. He is very kind and caring and healing his patients is a priority. I will always be grateful to Dr. Fukushima and the talented doctors and staff at Raleigh Neurosurgical Clinic.

I had excruciating pain from trigeminal neuralgia. I didn't have any hope of getting off all of the medicine that I was taking a living a normal life. Thanks to Dr. Fukushima, who was recommended to me by my neurologist, I am able to resume my life and enjoy my family again!

He was so kind and wonderful and had a great sense of humor and made me feel so comfortable. He said he had done 2980 skull base surgeries and I would be 2981. That was in 1995 and it is still a success today. I'm from Walla Walla Washington and flew back to Allegheny General Hospital in PA. where he was located to do the surgery. The staff was very nice and easy to speak with.I had to wait over an hour to see Dr.Fukushima.As he entered the room,he never introduced himself,he begun telling me what surgery he was capable of,etc.He hardly looked into my eyes as he was speaking.It seemed it insulted him,that I came to him for anything as insignificant as face numbness.He reminded me my referring Dr.was just a Medical Neurologist,and he himself was a Neurosurgeon.He said I needed to be on a steroid but never offered to write a simple prescription.I am sorry I did not see or feel the compassion that I read about on his page.I will recommend my Neurologist to find another Neurosurgeon to refer his patients to.Bad experience.

Ten years ago, Dr. Fukushima operated on my daughter's golf-ball sized, skull-based tumor when several other neurosurgeons would not touch it. Although she had a difficult recovery period, he saved her life and she is thriving!

Dr. F did my surgery in 2009. My tumor was very rare and very hard to remove, but he had complete confidence that he would remove the tumor without complications. When I woke up from surgery, I had lost my ability to swallow and speak and half my face was paralyzed. I had to get a feeding tube and undergo months of speech therapy. Dr. Fukishima did not aide in my recovery. He claimed in the op report that he had removed the entire tumor, but a few months later I got an MRI and found that he had only removed one third of the tumor. Did I mention I was 16 years old when this happened? I had to have a second surgery to remove the tumor that he left with a different surgical team but they couldn't undo the nerve damage from my surgery with Dr. Fukushima. I'm sure he is a great surgeon, but make sure you explore all your options before committing to a surgery. I'm 22 years old and disabled because of this surgeon.

I feel very confident with Dr. Fukushima, MD as my physician. His experience and manner gave me no need to worry and I feel as confident with him today as I did prior to the surgery. He is remarkable. His office staff is kind and informative.

My wife had surgery that was pre-approved by insurance. After 2 other outstanding surgeons exposed the tumor, Dr. Fukushima did the tumor resection. Thank God the surgery went very well. Months after the surgery I received a bill from Dr. Fukushima's office for $15,000 since he was performing the surgery "out of network". I am still fighting Wellpath 20 months after the surgery.

This man is an incredible surgeon. He not only has gifted hands, but a genuine heart. When you meet him you instantly see that not only does he want to save people, but he wants them to have a good quality of life. He successfully removed my rare brain tumor from my brainstem. I owe him this incredible life I live.
