Summary
Teneshia Winder, PhD, LMFT, is an advanced practice mental health clinician and a licensed marriage and family therapist who counsels patients in the primary care practice setting and helps them with their emotional health needs.
Growing up, Teneshia was struck by the struggles of people around her and the societal stigma of mental health. This ignited in her a passion to create positive change. Pursuing the mental health field became a calling, so she could advocate for the voiceless and provide compassionate, informed care.
Teneshia is experienced in a range of modalities and treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and somatic therapy. As she works with individuals and families, she identifies each person’s unique needs and tailors her interventions to best help them overcome their struggles. She specializes in treating trauma, and one of her career …highlights has been designing and implementing a faith-based trauma clinic. She took this mission overseas to Ghana where she has served over 300 leaders in faith-based communities.
With deep understanding of the importance of culturally and spiritually sensitive mental health approaches and the need for trauma-informed care, Teneshia integrates these in her daily work. She is an author of several books as part of a project that brings together trauma survivors to engage in intensive group therapy and write about their experiences for their own healing process and to raise awareness for others.
Outside of work, Teneshia is a dedicated wife and mother who treasures family time and supporting her children in their activities. She is heavily involved in her local church with her husband who is the pastor. She also teaches free contemporary dance classes to local youth, and likes to stay fit and reduce stress through kickboxing.
