Forgot all about it but I had a rotator cuff, bicep and elbow tendon reattachment done in 1 surgery. Pain was minimal by my standards although I am HIGHLY INTOLERANT to pain. 2 weeks AFTER the surgery, I was able to stand up and pull fuel injectors out of a jetski with no issues. Within 3 months, all I had left were the twinges when I am stressing it. Within 6 months, all that reminded me of the surgery was the scars. No pain, arm back to 100%. I would highly recommend this surgeon to anyone and do In fact, the reason I came across the bad review is that the wife is now looking to have surgery done by Dr Gertel and I thought I should tell about my bad experience.

I am completely unimpressed with Dr. Gertel. His P.A., Rich, is wonderful, spent time with my 92 year old mom and examined her thoroughly. After she was x-rayed, Dr. Gertel came in for under 3 minutes, did not look at mom's knee nor examine it at all and then told her she'd have a cortisone injection. He then left her in Rich's hands. Rich gave her the injection, and explained everything to us. I would never return to Dr. Gertel. The only thing he did well was have a terrific P.A.

I consider Dr. Gertel an exceptional orthopedic surgeon and would refer him to anyone. After being referred to Dr. Gertel for surgery on a broken knee cap in 1999, I didn't hesitate returning to him for surgery on a torn ligament in my other knee in 2007, even knowing he wasn't an "In Network" Provider with my health insurance. My primary physician (HMO) recommended physical therapy, which I tried for 18 weeks with little improvement. I decided to get Dr. Gertel's opinion, who immediately recommended surgery. My work requires physical demands and time was of the essence. Dr. Gertel and his staff were able to arrange surgery within days and get me on the road to recovery. In less than a month, I was well enough to return to field work and within two months was given a clean bill of health. Due to the short period of downtime, I was also able to take advantage of an opportunity which greatly furthered my career. I can see myself still in PT today if I hadn't gone to see Dr. Gertel.… Overall, I consider him a very fine doctor with a great bedside manner and excellent staff.
