Dr. Thomas Emmett Burns

Had a c-section at in network hospital, with my in network physician, and Dr. Burns invited himself to join (without my consent)- his "practice" was (allegedly) out of network and A YEAR LATER billed for close to $1,200.00. If you are an OB patient at INOVA Alexandria KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

We had a routine caesarian at Inova Alexandria, and apparently Dr. Burns invited himself to the operation to "consult." Our doctor did the work, I was there, and I never even saw this Burns guy. A month later, we get an out-of-network bill directly from Burns for $1000, for his vital "consulting." We then find out that Inova has shady deals with out-of-network doctors, allowing them to "consult" on patients' cases without talking with them first, then bill the patients for thousands of dollars separately. This is a pretty sleazy practice, and apparently, Dr. Burns sees very little value in treating his patients fairly. If I was a new patient, I wouldn't trust this doctor at all. (As an added bonus, he tried to bill Cigna, accepted an out-of-network payment with a cap on the maximum patient charge, then turned around and sent me a bill for more than the maximum charge he had agreed to. Maybe he didn't think Cigna would tell me?)
