Dr. Thomas Harlan Hudgins, MD

I am beyond frustrated with the attitude of Dr. Thomas Hudgins. My husband recently went to the spinal clinic in Skokie, and Dr. Hudgins had the audacity to tell us that a bulging disc and arthritis are the same thing!!? How are we supposed to put our trust in practitioners who can’t even distinguish between two completely different conditions? My husband has been suffering from excruciating back pain due to an accident for 6 long weeks, and he has diligently sought medical care throughout this nightmare. He can hardly bear the pain, yet Dr. Hudgins refuses to give him the pain injections that Dr. Shu recommended, insisting he should sit and suffer for another 4 weeks! How is that remotely acceptable? My husband needs to get back to work, but this physician thinks it’s okay to make him wait another month? And equating a bulging disc with arthritis just to justify doing nothing is nothing short of misleading. We are deeply disappointed with Northshore. The quality of care has taken a… nosedive, with incompetent doctors who don't provide any meaningful help and seem more interested in having patients return over and over again. We’re stuck paying high copayments each time we see a doctor, only to be told to come back in 4 weeks for no valid reason at all. This is utterly unacceptable!

He doesn’t care about his patients and shouldn’t be in pain management . He gave me more pain with the epidural shots then I had before them. When I cried out he didn’t care even after I almost passed out. Even worse, I ended up in the ER and I’m still feeling terrible. I told his team I was in pain and he never called me. When I finally got my follow up televisit he basically dismissed my concerns and pain. He is the totally insensitive to his patients!"

He spend the whole time on his phone except when he actually gave me the shot.

Dr. Hudgins is a very excellent doctor, good bedside manor, very understanding about your concerns. My neck injection went very well, no pain soon after the injection.

Worst doctor ever. Nicked a nerve during injection and couldn’t use arm for a month. Didn’t even apologize and poor nurses were besides themselves because he wouldn’t come to the recovery room.

Went to see Dr. Hudgins due to back pain and leg issues. I also have a Tarlov cyst - Dr. Hudgin acted like he knew what it was - claimed it wasn't in my nerve/nerve root. WRONG - just got back from seeing a specialist ( NeuroSurgeon) in Dallas that only deals with Tarlov Cyst. He also said " he could give me a shot but not sure if it would help" he was VERY quick to say a shot but put in my records I was fixated on my Cyst. Would never allow him to treat me with his rushed and uneducated opinion. You could tell that he didn't want to spend any time researching to see if my cyst could be causing my problem.

Dr. Hudgins has been my physician for the last 10 years. I'm a retired critical care nurse, so I know an excellent physician when I interact with them. In my opinion, Dr Hudgins is just that, an excellent physician.

Took time to make a complete evaluation.

Had been frustrated after going to IBJI numerous times, tried something new based on a few recommendations. So glad I did, Dr Hudgins recognized what the problem was, asked questions that none of the other doctors had. Doing so much better, able to resume activities FINALLY!

This guy is a joke. I don't know why I wasted time going to his office. He spent maybe two minutes on his examination of me, and acted annoyed at any questions I had, and brushed me off. I have never written a review of any place, let alone a Dr.'s office. To me that means he sucks beyond belief.
