Dr. McCauley is a great person and an excellent surgeon. There's no such thing as "routine surgery," so be particular about who touches your only set of eyes!

I was treated for cataracts in both eyes by Dr. McCauley very recently. He was engaging as a physician and put me at ease almost immediately. My second surgery was yesterday. After I was home from the operation, I had severe pain in that eye. Dr. McCauley insisted that I come into his office to check out the pain. He determined that a fiber from the bandage or some other source was the culprit that developed into a corneal abraision. I was given a salve to treat it. He insisted that he receive a telehone call from my husband later at night. After that telephone call, I needed to take a pain medication that I had at home. He informed my husband that should my condition worsen to call his office at anytime that night. I was genuinely surprised at his concern. I was not an easy patient because I tended to blink often during the operation, because of my nerves. But he laughed that off and made me have confidence in his treatment. The fact that he was so available to assist me… with my situation had never happened before although I have had other physicians who demonstrated determined interest no matter what my condition was at the time. My opinion of the care provided by Dr. McCauley and his staff is, from 1 to 100, is 100. Just an amazing Doctor!

This is a surgeon who operates at the Miriam Hospital and has most of the hospital staff and their families as his patients. Whats better than that. Of course his day can be upset by emergencies, back up at hospitals, ... Im glad that he will be there when I need surgery!!!

Totally agree with review below me. Such arrogance. This guy spends all his time telling me about himself and then two minutes actually...you know...looking at my eye?! Great, thanks, Doc. I know you're wonderful. Congrats on your achievements in medicine. Now can we please get to the problems that brought me here in the first place? Oh wait, you have to run out to take a phone call? Okay...that works...might as well sit here for a few more minutes since Ive already been here for two hours. Looking for new eye doc now - one who'll be able to manage my chronic eye conditions and not waste all of my time (yes, Dr. McCauley, I know you're great, but my time means something to me too............) Staff is mediocre - brusque and doesn't seem to care. Prob just frustrated/burned out having to work for a windbag like this (don't blame you, I promise!). Wait times abhorrent - an hour past appointment time if you're lucky. If you're me, may be 1.5+ hours.

I found this Dr's lack of respect for his patients time and failure to give his patients the time and attention they deserve and pay for unacceptable. He spent more time telling me how good he is as I he ran after me as I am walking out of the office office an hour after my appointment time than he spent when I was in the office. May be a good Dr but I for one will never know. My time is as valuable as his and he should learn to respect that in his patience, no matter their age.

Dr. Thomas McCauley is the only Dr. I look forward to visiting. The experience is always enjoyable. I feel I am always treated like a first class person. His staff is always completely friendly and professional. My #1 guy for my eye.
