Dr. Thomas Peter Nigra, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Nigra for some 20 years when in DC area from overseas assignments. It takes over an hour each way to reach his office, but he is well worth the inconvenience. His manner is winning; his knowledge detailed, with top-notch diagnoses - for better/worse. Only the reception staff is poor.

The worst customer service EVER from a doctor's office. The receptionist isn't friendly at all. The clinic manager Darlene shouldn't ever work with people she is rude, she yells at you, unprofessional, will cut you off when you speak & pls don't ask a question she is extremely impatient & non caring. Someone from Pt Advocay really needs to evaluate that office & replace his nasty staff with a more friendly, courteous, caring demeanor

My average wait time at the front area was 50 minutes each time I went. The receptions are rude and incompetent. Once inside, I usually have to wait another 10 minutes. Only so the doctor can treat me for 5 minutes.

Nice doctor but difficult to cope with the hostile office staff and over one hour wait just to get in the exam room.... Were they trained in Russia?

Terrible front desk staff. They clearly hate their jobs and the patients. They are rude, tacky, trashy, and an embarrassment to the medical field. They were completely unhelpful even when their confusion regarding my insurance was their fault. They wouldn't stop their personal conversations long enough to assist me with finding a phone number (they insisted I call the insurance company to clear up their confusion even though it was clearly something they should be doing). After waiting for over an hour, they suggested I reschedule until the confusion was cleared. They said my insurance card was not enough proof of coverage and they needed something faxed from my insurance company proving I had coverage and didn't need a referral, and that I should have brought proof of that in. I have never been treated so poorly by such an incompetent staff. It was embarrassing for the doctor (whom I didn't see) and the hospital. I wouldn't recommend this disgusting staff to my worst enemy. … Pathetic.

Dr Nigra literally saved my life when he diagnosed and treated me for a malignant melanoma. We caught it early, which made the process much easier, but for 10 years I have gone back to see him once to twice a year. This is a teaching hospital, so you get checked by an intern and then him - it's two sets of eyes looking at your skin, which is extra good. Problems: I have had much trouble over the years contacting the billing people and his office staff do not always provide the most helpful service, but for what truly matters, Dr. Nigra is superb.

I visited Dr. Nigra for treatment of my long-time battle with acne. Acne, as many people know, can be very harmful to one's self-image and self-esteem. I came into his office pretty much desperate for help with my skin. Dr. Nigra was very thorough and I left his office feeling confident in his diagnosis and hopeful for great results from his treatment plan. It has been approximately 2 weeks since starting treatment and there is actually a noteable difference. I am very appreciative of his service and would recommend him to anyone who struggles with acne. Thank you Dr. Nigra!

Dr. Nigra is fine. Not really personable but diagnosed my problem and prescribed medication that has worked. His staff however are incredibly RUDE and generally dismissive and unhelpful.

Dr. Nigra was fine but his staff is horribly rude. I just called because CVS would not renew my prescription in another location unless if I the doctor's office called. The woman who answered the phone was one of the most unpleasant people to speak with - Darlene. I don't normally write these complaints online but she answered all my questions screaming at me. When I didn't understand because she was shouting, she was got more frustrated, refused to explain further and told me that someone would call me later. She was awfully rude and I would do anything before going back to that office.

My experience with Dr. Nigra is that he knows his "stuff" in his area of expertise. I spent big time bucks at a dermatologist who talked me into buying expensive lotions, shampoo and conditioner and even some topical antibiotics to treat a scalp/skin disorder that I have been plagued with off and on for at least 20 years. Recently in the last year, though, the condition seemed to have worsened. My primary care doctor (another phenomenal internist, Dr. William P. Frederick referred me to Dr. Nigra). Dr. Nigra and associate prescribed a compound for this condition and I've not had a problem (reoccurrence) since I received treatment. Because Dr. Nigra is so good, his office stays packed so be prepared to wait for the visit. BUT, it is WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!! Dr. Nigra you are a wonderful doctor and will be my dermatologist FOREVER!!!
