Dr. Thomas Harold Swanson, MD

Dr. Swanson WAS my son's neurologist here in Boise for about 4 years, since he had to leave his pediatric provider at age 18. On our first appointment, first patient appointment at 8:30 am in the morning, he was over an hour late. When he finally showed up it was obvious to the the group home nurse who attended with me and my son that Dr. Swanson was HUNGOVER. I wanted to switch to another, reputable neurologist, but there was a 6 month wait. So the second appointment was better. My son doesn't really need a lot of neuro help, just to ensure his seizures are under control. So after twelve years seizure free my son has breakthrough seizures Saturday night. First thing Sunday I call to get emergency meds and guess what? Dr. Swanson left town, closed shop, and TOLD NO PATIENTS. What kind of a messed up neurologist does that? You can have him, Missoula. But if I were a patient in Missoula, I'd find a new neurologist ASAP, because most neuro patients need their doctor.

My daughter was diagnosed with Pachygyria in 2015 and since then we have been trying to find a neurologist that is a good fit for our family. Dr Swanson is thorough, does not push medication, and has a great bedside manner which is so hard to find! I would highly recommend Dr Swanson and he came highly recommended to me!

Dr Swanson is neurologist and epileptologist practicing in Brigthon Michigan and Missoula Montana. I highly recommend him. He is the best choice for epilepsy and trained at the Mayo clinic.

Great doctor. Don't listen to other reviews. He is brilliant, and very good at treating epilepsy. My dad went to see him after a stroke and he helped him tremendously too. Highly reccoment Dr. Swanson.,

Worst experience I have ever had with a Doctor. Rude, dismissing and argumentative, I was told my questions were all over the place, but he never bothered to answer them. No compassion whatsoever to a very difficult situation. Having my daughter suffer from a un-diagnosed ailment is frustrating and scary but having the doctor you've placed your trust in behave so poorly and uncaring is unforgivable.

Intellectually and medically brilliant. The House MD of epileptologists. Took my son from 45 seizures weekly to zero. Answers after hours in emergencies.

Dr. Swanson is one of the worst doctors I've ever met. He told me that I either had MS or that I was "making up" my symptoms. Said that he suspected I would "magically get better" once I saw that my brain MRI was normal. He indicated that because I work in healthcare, that I must be a hypochondriac. Instead, I was given an actual diagnosis months later by an actual doctor, and I'm doing much better on several medications. In addition to being out-right dismissive, rude, and condescending, he made me wear a freezing paper gown in his office while he chatted with a colleague about their weekend plans for 20 + minutes. No apology afterwards. He treated me terribly at one of the most vulnerable times of my life. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.

My local physician researched neurologists in the surrounding states. Through a discussion with Mayo clinic, he found and referred me to Dr. Swanson. I'm very grateful. I had already been to 3 other neurologists, with no success. I have a rare chronic continual migraine, which had unusual symptoms. Dr. Swanson took the time to listen to me. He also knew the questions to ask. There's several things that set him apart from other neurologists. A few of those are: he doesn't give up, he genuinely cares, he's extremely knowledgeable, he doesn't over medicate, and most importantly he listens. He changed my quality of life.
