Dr. Timothy Allan Mcgillivray, MD

Dr. McGivillary diagnosed my condition which required prompt surgery. He explained my condition and what the surgery would entail. His bedside manner was exemplary. He checked in on me every morning. I was thrilled to have him as my surgeon. I now feel wonderful.

My husband went in for PPH surgery about 3+ years ago. Following the procedure, he began having more pain than before. After having a follow-up, the doctor said the pain would go away. He called for another follow-up and complained of more pain. The doctor poo-pooed his complaint and said that he should contact his primary physician. Fast forward to now - we've seen a specialist at USC, Cedars Sinai, UCLA and UCI. He has a combination of issues causing pain. 1) The staples never fell out...he needed two procedures to remove 50 staples. 2) He has levator ani spasms. 3) All the pain occurs upon rising in the morning (it is positional). What we've done: Seen various specialists and had many tests done (including defacography); had trigger point massage (I even learned how to do this); bought a TENS unit and used it for 5 months; did biofeedback and acupuncture; had 3 epidurals; went to UCI Pain Management and had 3 procedures done there...none of which stopped the… pain. Besides spending an inordinate amount of money, we are trying one last procedure to see if it will bring much needed relief. The pain is positional so it's constant unless he is laying down flat. You can form your own opinion from this review. I am very distraught that my husband has been trying to live with this constant pain. We rarely go anywhere together because of it. The doctor has not only ruined one person's life but two. I love my husband fiercely and want him to be whole again.

kept me in good spirits and laughing all the way to the O.R. very thorough and professional when it's time to get to work. i can see why the staff at little company of Mary respect and enjoy, working with him.

I should've read these reviews before having surgery with this guy. What he explained me before and after the surgery is totally different. I really feel like he pushed the surgery just to make more money. His staffs at office were very friendly before surgery but after that when I was in pain and wanted to talk to the doctor immediately, it took forever for them to call back and the doctor sounded fairly upset by me calling and asking questions..... They didn't even give me the date for follow up appointment, when I called, he said he wanted me to call and make an appointment... Wow,really? So what he was saying is, unless i call, he didn't care about checking my recovery.... Very weird, unprofessional, money hungry and impatient doctor! Stay away

I am distressed and appalled by my treatment by Dr. McGillivray! It upsets me to write this review as I had been a faithful patient to this doctor since 2011. I don't write this in spite, pure honesty. Today I was seen in the ER of LCMH with intense anal pain from a Anal a fissure that he diagnosed me with 2 weeks post op from my Hemmoridectomy surgery in July. I saw him the day before for a 2nd progress check on the Fissure which he said was NOT healing and needed surgery to correct the issue. We discussed treatment options and when to schedule the surgery, what to expect from recovery, etc. I spoke to his nurse this morning asking for advice on my level 10 rectal pain caused by this terrible Fissure. She said to text him and explain my concerns and that I was going to the ER in pain. I had taken the maximum amount of pain medication prescribed by a pain specialist because he refused to address my post op pain from my Hemmoridectomy done the previous month. The text he sent back… to me shocked me! It said, Your Fissure is healed. That is not the source of your pain. you need to talk to your pain Doc. I am not going to operate on a healed fissure. My Anal Fissure has gotten worse over the past month and is bleeding daily with intense pain. So where is this coming from? I checked into the ER and said Dr. McGillivray was no longer my doctor and not to consult with him regarding my health. After being reassured I would be taken care of by the admitting staff and triaged things got a little weird in the waiting room. I waited an additional 2 hours before being taken back to see the ER doctor in a room I'd never been to before. I waited an hour for pain medication through my I V and was mostly ignored by the nursing staff. After the ER doctor examined me she left me alone for 2 hours. When she came back she said she had consulted with Dr. McGillivray about my condition and he said I did not have an Anal Fissure! I asked her why she consulted him as I specifically told her not to as he was no longer my treating surgeon. She made an excuse saying she was told to do all rectal consultations with him. Really??? She then told me on McGillivrays orders that I be discharged immediately. She examined me! My discharge paperwork states I had been seen and treated for Anal Fissure. I now have to find another surgeon and Im still suffering in pain until I can get it removed. Such a dissapointment.

Very upset with the outcome of my colostomy. My stoma is not normal and causes trouble in my life every single day.When I went back to Dr.McGillvery, He said that I was strong and I could take dealing with it. Really! Be careful if you are thinking of having surgery with him.

We had a horrible, life changing experince with this doctor. He ruined my husband's life due to his surgery. Now, 5 years later, more damage is done because there are complications from his surgery that is resulting in an additional surgery. What a shame!

While I haven't experienced him in surgery like someone has complained about above, I've had 4 office visits and a number of hemmorhoids treated by him. He is extremely friendly and sociable and took lots of time to explain the science behind my ailments after I asked. I don't see how any doctor could be better at putting you at ease and minimizing the embarassment of treating such a "private" area. I would highly recommend to anyone who would ever approach me about their colon problems! Since that probably won't happen, I've taken to the internet to make my recommendation!

I would never recomend this doctor. He disfigured my son, his patient. He went in for colon surgery with a waist line of 38 inches. After two hours of surgery he came out with an extended belly of 46 inches. He said that it was normal after colon surgery and it would go down in about one month. One month later it was still the same size. He said it could sometime take two months. Two months later it was still a 46 inche waist line. On the last visit he said it was belly fat. Now my son is afraid to see any other doctor because he does not want to go through surgery again.He not only lied, but how could my son put on all that belly fat during two hours of surgery? He should not be allowed to practice medcine. Stay away from him.

After an unsatisfactory conversation with his medical assisstant, I specifically requested (emphasized) I wanted a return phone call from the doctor. I was in severe pain and was being given no viable resolution from the medical assistant. I waited a week and a half in pain waiting for a return call that never happened. I find a doctor's inability to return a patient's phone call inexcuseable, unprofessional and rude. He obviously has little concern of a patients pain problems once he has performed and been paid for the surgery. Stay Away from this doctor.
