I am beyond frustrated with the care my nephew received at this ER. After a serious work-related accident, where he was hit by a heavy piece of material and collapsed to the floor, we informed the doctor about his symptoms, including blurry vision and excessive blinking—clear signs of a possible concussion. It wasn’t until the nurse arrived with a wheelchair for his imaging scans that I asked about a concussion test. Only then did they consult the doctor, and another nurse came in but instead of using the wheelchair, asked him to get up and walk. When I questioned why he wasn’t being assisted, the nurse sarcastically responded, “He’s getting up, right?”—as if he wasn’t in obvious distress. Frustrated, I approached the doctor and asked why he wasn’t given a wheelchair. Her dismissive response? “I wasn’t the one who asked him to get up.” I reminded her that she was the doctor, to which she replied that if he couldn’t get up, he would have said something. But how can someone in pain,… potentially concussed, and unable to think clearly be expected to advocate for themselves? This experience was nothing short of negligent. It should not take a family member demanding proper care for basic medical protocol to be followed. If this is how patients with head and upper back trauma are treated, I fear for anyone seeking urgent care at this facility. Unacceptable.
