Summary
Dr. Todd McGrath is a sports medicine specialist at HSS. In addition to general sports medicine and acute orthopedic injuries, he offers minimally invasive procedures in the office setting using bedside ultrasound imaging for guidance. This includes joint and soft tissue injections, procedures to improve chronic tendinopathy and platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP). Dr. McGrath also treats sports related concussions, performs biomechanical/gait assessment in runners and cyclists, performs exertional compartment pressure testing and focuses on treatment of the endurance athlete. Dr. McGrath graduated from New Mexico State University and received his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. After practicing emergency medicine, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Cone Health System in Greensboro, NC, where he obtained advanced training in non-operative sports …medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and care of the runner and endurance athlete. Dr. McGrath has served as team physician at the high school, college and professional level. He was the medical director of the Trans-Sylvania MTB Epic stage race for 6 years and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League. He has traveled as the team physician with US Soccer's national teams and was the venue medical director for international soccer events in Philadelphia, including the Copa America Tournament. He has published numerous articles and book chapters in both emergency medicine and sports medicine. He has been an invited lecturer on musculoskeletal ultrasound and sports medicine at numerous meetings, conferences and universities. Dr. McGrath has a strong personal and professional interest in the endurance athlete. He has competed on the national and international level as a triathlete, was a multiple-time USA Triathlon All-American, competed at the Ironman Triathlon World Championships, completed 8 Ironman length triathlons and represented the United States at the ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships. As time permits, he continues to compete at a high level. His experiences, in addition to his professional training, give him a unique understanding of the endurance athlete and their medical care.

Dr McGrath truly evaluated me as a person, rather than merely the information and x rays I brought for his review. He provided me with a gentle, thoughtful, and comprehensive exam. Dr McGrath is a great listener and worked with me to develop a comfortable plan of action. He is very responsive and thorough. The 39th Street HSS Brooklyn office is excellent, clean, spacious, and the receptionists are friendly and helpful. I truly appreciated his prompt responses via the HSS portal when I had additional questions. I highly recommend Dr. McGrath.
