Dr. Vahid Ghiasian, MD

*very long review ahead* It has taken me years to come up with the words for how horrific this practice and doctors are, especially Dr. Ghiasian. This doctor is the coldest and most inconsiderate excuse of a human being, let alone a doctor. When I was 7 years old I started having seizures and was under the care of Dr. Ghiasian. After only two days in the hospital and only one EEG that didn't show any activity, I was sent home without any more testing or medication trial. I was also sent home with a desperate mother being told there was nothing wrong with me as I was rolled out having seizures in a wheel chair. After a consecutive six months of having over 70+ seizures a day, they (not so mysteriously, as we learned- this is common) disappeared. Fast forward, seven years later, I am 14 years old when this dreadfully resurfaces. Again, we unhopefully bring ourselves to Staten island University hospital neurology. We are delightfully met with a brand new doctor, Dr. Okolo All Dr. Okolo… had to do was take a look at my seizures and had an almost immediate answer for us. We did a few days of testing, and even though the EEG didn't show a thing (we had learned they were too deep in the brain to show any activity) we started a medication trial and the first medication that was administered was a hit. It was like magic, after all these years with no hope Dr. Okolo was able to completely diagnose me in the matter of days and I was sent hope completely seizure free. Now even though I will always treasure Dr. Okolo for diagnosing me, we are met in the later years with some really unfortunate circumstances regarding her as a doctor, quite surprisingly and disappointingly. Fast forward a few more years, I am 20 years old, without any issues regarding my epilepsy. I was told by Dr. Okolo that when It was time for pregnancy that I could not be on my current medication- oxcarbazepine (we will later find out that this medication is in fact safe for pregnancy). We had discussed switching to a safer medication way ahead of time so my levels would be balanced for the future without any worries. So we started the process, weening off of the trustful medication and into the unknown. Lo and behold, the new medication did not work for me as a few weeks later, the seizures returned. All though Dr. Okolo (who I trusted with my entire heart), was supposed to be working with me throughout this process, I was suddenly and unknowingly ripped from her care and now in the hands of Dr. Ghiasian (reason completely unknown and never explained to me). I had my hesitation about working with him due to my prior experience, but handed my trust over to the doctor. With all of the words in my vocabulary I can not muster up what I truly want to say to this horrendous man. When the 50+ a day seizures started back up, Dr. Ghiasian started some EEG testing. When the inevitable happened, and my EEG did not show any activity, I was told that I no longer have epilepsy and that I would need to start speaking to psychologists and psychiatrists. I begged to be put back on my original medication and was denied multiple times by Dr. Ghiasian, because I apparently didn't have epilepsy anymore. I will never forget sitting in my hospital bed and being told to "stop crying you should be happy you don't have epilepsy anymore" and "grow up you're an adult now." After leaving the hospital still having a severe amount of seizures a day, and multiple calls to the doctor, I was denied a refill multiple times for the medication that helped me. I will never forgive Dr. Okolo for passing me off, with the knowledge of my past history with Dr. Ghiasian. I have not heard from her since. I had seizures for over five dreadful months straight. I saw psychologists and psychiatrists who turned me away saying that they were no help to me. I had no quality of life, I went to my classes having seizures and stayed home for the rest of the time. I blame this all on Dr. Ghiasian and Dr. Okolo. I finally was hospitalized with the most amazing doctors of Columbia University Hospital. They did an EEG (found no activity) but immediately put me back on my original form of medication. They also made it very clear that it was completely safe to be on my medication while pregnant, all I needed was a dose of daily folate to get me though safely. This was all for nothing. I am now 25, have a bachelor's degree and I am happily married with a wonderful quality of life. It has taken me years to collect my thoughts to write this review. Please do not send your children to this practice, the drive over the bridge is well worth visiting the most caring and compassionate doctors over at Columbia University hospital in New York. I cannot begin to fathom.or understand how this doctor is still working with patience, especially children.

Have been seeing Dr. G for almost 2 years. After testing and talking he determined I had been I correctly diagnosed by another doctor. He is weaning me off my meds and I have not felt this good in 10 years. He is also compassionate, caring, empathetic and actually calls back when needed. A rare breed.

I have never been so terribly insulted in my life. I expect to be treated with respect and dignity. He only had a few appts with me and jumped to assumptions. He didn't even read the 1000. report sent to him from John Hopkins He said you are obnoxious to everyone you meet. How would he know.He doesn't even know me. Then, he said I am aliitle bipolar. He only saw me 3xs. Then,he said I insulted the nurses in the hospital The nurses were bastards and should go blankety blank themselves

energetic,caring,fights for you and with you. He's energetic. He has empathy for other people He has a certain acumen. He just has a knack of ferreting out your problem. Some people have that knack

I have been a patient of dr. ghiasian's for almost 14 years now.I went to several doctors and neurologists for years and no one could figure out what was wrong. it was very frustrating ! dr.ghiasgian figured it out right away! he cares about the patient! !he is a doctor in every sense of the word ! doctors like him are a very rare breed !i like all of his patients are so lucky to have him! as far as the office staff goes they are great people! It is an extremely busy office and they do whatever they can to help and get the job done!

I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone. He was rude. He wouldn't take the time to answer questions I had. His staff doesn't return phone calls. I don't know how he has patients. Worst experience of my life.

Dr Ghiansian is a very dedicated an caring Neurologist. He listens to his patients and does whatever it takes to ensure a quality of life for his patient, I highly recommend him for anyone having neurological issues

Dr. "G" made me feel like I was one of his family members. Spent a great deal of time getting to understand me and followed up with through exam and testing.Best bedside manner I have ever experienced.I can't say enough good things about him.

Dr. Ghiasian, at first did not seem friendly. We later found out he was a bit shy and thus did not make eye contacts or communicate as we had expected. An impeccable and diligent neurologist, a bless in the sky dropped at our lap, yes, he is, he indeed is.....quite competent and a warm human touch as well...
