Dr. Valencia Lavette Stephens

By far, the best OB/GYN I've ever had. I couldn't have asked for a better, more thoughtful, more attentive doctor.

She is caring and shows that she has great knowlegde in her profession. I would recommend her to all my family members and friends.

Dr Stephens was wonderful. She listened and was concerned with my issues. She was attentive with a positive attitude. The office has poor follow-up on labs. Over-all experience was a good one. Would recommend her to others

I would recommend Dr Stephens to ANY woman for ANY situation that may arise regarding woman's care. Not only is she knowledgeable and keeps up on any new information, but overall she is a very caring person. I first went to Dr Stephens after a huge suprise that I was expecting. I went to her old clinic where my best friend, who was 2 months further along that I was,recommended me. She was always upfront with any information and went above and beyond making sure to give me accurate information to keep my baby safe. When my friend went in to deliver (being told by the other staff that an induction was necissary) she took one look and was able to provide clear documentation on why an induction was actually dangerous for her and her child. Two days later Dr Stephens delivered a healthy and happy baby boy! After this incident I was concerned about the information I was recieving from the other staff. At this time Dr Stephens was taking a month vacation before starting at her new… practice. When my water broke I was terrified to call the clinic that she had left, so I called her cell phone. She came in from her vacation, and after a difficult delivery where time became vital (I had a fever of 104) used her judgement to bring my beautiful daughter safely into the world. If that isn't enough dedication, when I got postpartum depression she fit me in immediatly, and when she felt that it was beyond her expertise she stayed with me for 6 hours on a friday after the clinic closed to wait for counslers to come evaluate me, to ensure that my baby and I were safe. She then followed up with me on her own time to ensure I was seeking proper help. My psychiatrist said if Dr Stephens hadn't taken the steps she had, I would have been in the hospital medicated, and taking time off work that I can't afford and my baby would be cared for by some one else. Now my baby and I are happy, healthy, and can enjoy eachother fully. I am grateful that Dr Stephens cared enough and was knowledgable enough to make my family the miricle that it should be!

Dr. Stephens had recently joined the practice that I go to. I had just had a baby and my regular OB was unavailable to insert the IUD I had requested so I allowed Dr. Stephens to do it. BIG mistake. I had done my homework and had lots of questions about the type of IUD I was getting, I asked her about my concerns and she told me none of the things I was worried about were valid. Just as she was about to insert it she realized that she was putting the wrong one in. Duh. And all of my concerns were valid. When she finally put the right one in it was the worst pain I had ever felt. I told her that I was in pain and she made me feel like I was exaggerating. I could hardly drive home because the pain was so intense. After 2 days of unrelenting pain I went back to the office and had an ultrasound done, the ultrasound tech told me she couldn't give me any information but that she would have somebody get back to me in 48 hours. I demanded that somebody see me NOW. Dr. Stephens came… in took a look at the ultrasound and the first thing she said was "did you want to have more children?" I burst into tears as she informed me that the IUD had gone through my uterus wall and that I needed to have surgery asap. I went for a second opinion. I was told by a different doctor that Dr. Stephens had pushed the IUD clear through my uterus and that I did indeed have to have surgery. When I called to have my files transfered I was called several times by nurses and then Dr. Stephens herself. I was told a range of things from how much immediate danger I was in(not true), that the IUD could puncture a vital organ(also not true), and that they did not want me seeing another doctor. I ended up having the surgery and am now doing great, with no thanks to doctor stephens!
