Dr. Violette Hong, MD

Been about 4 or 5 years since I've been a patient of Dr. Hong, but I can't overstate how amazing she was. I was doing very badly at the time, and it took a lot of work on both our parts to get me started on improving, but by god she managed it. The medication regimen she designed for me is still going incredibly strong, with the only real changes being decreases in dosages thanks to my improving mental health. She's honest, straightforward, and transparent about what she's prescribing and why. She listens to concerns and works closely with you to figure out the best treatments. She's well-studied and EXTREMELY thorough in her methods — hands down the best doctor I've been to in my life by those two metrics. If I could go back to her, I would in a heartbeat, but the truth is that I don't even need to because the treatment she designed for me 5 years ago was THAT good.

I really felt like she knew what the right plan was for me and that following her advice would generally lead to good outcomes. She was always realistic and sincere, and able to explain things in a way that got the important points across. I feel like I improved immediately and substantially under her care.

I feel that Dr. Hong really empathizes with me as a person and patient, and makes me feel very comfortable being open about my progress while under her care. During her check-ins she re-evaluates my situation and is open to modifying the treatment plan based on changes I report to her. A very resourceful and caring doctor I feel lucky to have

I would not recommend this doctor. I got worse under her care and when the going got tough she no longer wanted to treat me.

A pill for whatever ails you psychiatrist- fortunately found one who could really help me.

I have been working with Dr. Hong with many psychiatric issues I face, and she is the only psychiatrist out of four I've visited who breaks down her methodology and reasoning for prescribing medicine and other gameplay details step-by-step. I find her savvy in modern psychiatry to be effective in the excellent treatment I've been receiving; she also gives the different treatment options with and without prescription medication.

Dr. Hong has worked with me treating multiple conditions simultaneously. She employs modern evidence-based practices (which has surprisingly been hard for me to find in Berkeley with private practitioners) and responds quickly to inquiries.

While I did find the right path to healing from grief/depression unfortunately while she seems like a caring person does not think out of the box when it comes to mental health issues. Over medication seems to be the protocol even though my records clearly stated very sensitive to psyche meds in general. Psychiatrist all too often are med dispensaries and I found a brilliant one who did think out of the box which in my experience are few and far between .
