Dr. William Russell Bennett, MD

PLEASE do not go to this man. He is dismissive, judgmental, curt, and does not listen AT ALL. He talks over and through you and does not even make eye contact with you. He interviews you rather than talks with you. He expects you to have exact records of every single medication you have ever taken, it's dosage and all side effects. This is nearly impossible for someone who has been going through treatment for 30 years. He was 25 minutes late for my appointment and he misconstrued everything I said when he relayed information to my therapist. He made me feel SO much worse. The staff here is also terrible. When I was instructed to arrive early for my appointment, no one was there. When someone finally showed up to let me in and asked if I had an appointment, I said yes and that I was instructed to show up early. The staff member literally laughed at me. Please do not put yourself through this.

Dismissive of any information I attempted to share with him regarding trends affecting my ethnicity and age demographic. He was contentious almost to confrontation. He had an air of officiousness and veiled impatience . He focused on drug and alcohol use that ended 26 years ago but seemingly ignored recent prescription medication chemotherapy side effects.. He seems cold and uncaring.

This man is to be avoided. He shows little empathy, he rejects patient feedback with which he disagrees, relies heavily on the DSM for authority, and pushes pills with only secondary regard to the impact their use might have on the patient. He doubled my anti-depressant dosage despite the fact that I told him that previously that dosage level had the negative effect of making me agitated and unfocused. Two weeks after beginning the new dosage I had my first speeding ticket ever, in many decades of driving. I called him about the problem, and his exact response was, "Why are you calling me? You can't call me now. I will not help you." Stay away, and if you don't, run in the opposite direction.

I have been seeing Dr. Bennett for the last six months. In these past six months Dr. Bennett was able to do something that no other psychiatrist has been able to do for me in my 26 yrs. of life and that was accurately diagnose me. I was diagnosed with other things in my past, but knew something else was wrong. Dr. Bennett took the time to listen to my symptoms, and given his many years of experience assessed them accurately. I feel like Dr. Bennett really wants to help me and wants me to get better. One day I came in very upset and crying and he made me laugh by telling jokes. Reading some of the other reviews, a lot of people said he comes off as "cold" and smug. I would have to disagree. He does kind of have a dry sense of humor but, I can tell he really wants to help me get better. He is really easy to talk to and nonjudgmental. I will continue to see him and think he's overall a good doctor who knows what he's doing.

I met Dr. Bennett to review the case of a friend of mine he had been treating. The meeting lasted only one hour. In that time, I got the impression he was cold, clinical and lacking in empathy. He seemed threatened by even gentle questions about his (horribly failed) treatment plan. Granted, I had a very limited exposure to him. But based solely on that, I would certainly not like to have him as my own therapist, and I felt he would be a poor choice for anyone requiring anything but a meds dispenser.

Dr. Bennett is a smug, uncaring doctor who doesn't want to take a case study - he just wants to make his own assumptions and put words and symptoms in your mouth for you. He'll be patronizing and when you take offense, he will say "most patients don't get upset". He loves comparing you to "most patients" which isn't very effective. DO NOT SEE THIS MAN. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
