Dr. William Ely Burkhalter JR., MD

I liked this doctor from the start. After seeking the opinion of three different Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons, he gave me the best in depth explanation of my son's condition. I left the office feeling extremely confident about moving forward on his surgery with Dr. Burkhalter. Unfortunately, my opinion changed after my experience with his staff. They seem very nice in person but the office is clearly disorganized and they seem to have way too much staff walking around doing nothing, especially considering the fact that for having so much people around, they scarcely returned my calls when I had questions. They are poorly trained and I had to keep calling them for answers. I'm always courteous over the phone and can't understand why they would take advantage. The surgery scheduler is the worst, she never called when she said she would. Over a month later she called saying they had an opening in less than 2 weeks notice! When I asked why she hadn't called when she said she would, she… just changed the subject. She never apologized for the oversight. I booked the appointment because the doctor is great but am going to consult with yet another surgeon because I question their capacity for follow-up care. I'm frustrated by my experience with their office. My confidence is shaken and I'm not sure they can provide the best care for my baby.

He performed surgery on my daughter's broken leg. He did a great job repositioning the bone. The follow up x-rays look great. He also courteously answered all questions.

I've had 3 hip surgeries done by this doctor and adore him. I had a very long struggle with my hips and this doctor knows what he's doing, is great at listening to his patients, is personable, and reliable. He stayed with me when the first surgery didn't work on one hip and when no one else on the island was qualified to or willing to do the surgery, he was there. He went far out of his way to make me better. I would recommend this doc to anyone.

Believing, accurately diagnosing, and surgically correcting his patients' issues with respect and care...as my daughter said so well, "I've finally got my mommy back!" Thanks for everything, Dr. B!
