Dr. William Steven Herzberg

I can't remember the exact date or year I met Doctor Herberg but I will always remember the experience. I had never been to a sleep apnea doctor. I had no idea what sleep apnea was? Doctor Herzberg first question was, Why have you come to see me Ms. Soto? I explained how I would wake up in the night coughing and coughing and could not breathe? Plus it would happen during the day when dozing? Doctor Herzberg immediately gave me a thorough examination. He looked at my throat, in my mouth, my hands, my wrists, noted to me my weight. Doctor Herzberg explained what he thought I had, which was Sleep Apnea. He explained how my body was not getting enough oxygen and that would deteriorate my organs faster giving me a shorter life span. He went over the tests that were needed and how important it was for me to listen and do what the test technicians wanted me to do? Doctor Herzberg went into great detail how important it was to get an accurate reading. On the second visit he diagnosed me with… Severe Sleep Apnea. Explaining the readings and that the longest time I went without breathing was over 3 minutes and how serious this was! He expressed great concern in my weight. I never considered ANYONE'S feedback pertaining to my weight EVER but I listened to him. His brutal honesty made me see the horror I was in? My insides were suffocating me! He informed me he would be expediting the insurance information so I could get my sleep apnea machine right away. He said I needed it! Most of all Doctor Herzberg explained the importance of me USING it all the time and not to give up on it, (As do most of his patients). I thought about all he said and the whole experience when I started using it. I knew why people gave up on it. Its hard to get used to! BUT when I got it I would not give up on it. I was around 28 at the time. I thought about his WARNINGS about lack of oxygen to my organs than when I applied it as a tool to sleep with I got used to it. The first day after I used it I felt energized, revived and ready to live again! I went to see Doctor Herzberg about 3 months later. I had lost more than 75 pounds and quit smoking too! I still remember his chuckle and smile. Especially his words when I told him I quit smoking..He said, so you thought you didn't need to smoke anymore either? I told him no. I first met Dr Herzberg after I woke up in a hospital having experienced my first Grand Mal Seizure. Dr Herzberg smiled at me and said Hello and from then on I have depended on him and trusted his judgement completely. He is always present when he is with me. I know he is giving my situation complete attention. He also has his own life experience to draw upon. I have been lucky to have him as my neurologist.
