Dr. William Dale Overfield, MD

I had been a resident of a nursing facility when Dr. Overfield came to the faculty for a meeting that did not involve meeting patients. Still, when he heard that I seemed to be growing weaker after initially being hospitalized for enteritis he sent me back to the hospital for a full neurological work up, which revealed that I was suffering from Guillain-Barre Symdrome and I was immediately placed on a regimen of IV Immunoglobulin. Months of intense therapy followed and I am nearly fully recovered. If not for Dr. Overfield I may well have died and most certainly would have experienced a much rougher time battling the disease.

Dr couldn't hear, and what he could hear, he had no interest in. Treated us (parents of the patient) like we were stupid. Didn't listen when we talked. Dismissed anything we said. I dislike being treated like an imbecile. My advice to him, "Listen to the people who know what's "normal" for the patient." Personally did not want this man as our daughter's dr. so I called the office and asked if we could have her file transferred to the other neurologist in the same office. They told me, "Sorry, no, we cannot do that." What? Really? Ok, that's fine, we'll take our business somewhere else. Which we did. NEXT!

The nurses and appointment staff were very nice, doctor himself wasn't! He was short when I had problems talking, would not listen to what I would try to say, seemed stuck on his preconceived ideas instead of what my problems were. Only exam was the first visit, rest of appointments were sitting in a chair in his office.

We brought our mother in to see Dr Overfield following a stroke. She has severe memory deficit following the episode. We had several questions regarding how to best deal with the situation. He anticipated our questions and provided the answers before we posed most of the questions. He never seemed rushed and didn't make us feel as if any of our questions were unnecessary.

I was referred to him for my headaches. After a couple of visits, he noticed that I had a tremor in my face, as well as a trembling in my hand and leg. He ran some diagnostic test, and referred me to a movement specialist for confirmation of his diagnosis. I have early stages of Parkinson's. He also refereed me to a pain specialist for my back pain. He ordered an MRI and discovered that I also have spinal stenosis. He referred me to a surgeon to make a decision on whether back surgery would be a good option. I feel very confident in him. He gets things done in a timely manner and is not afraid to ask for a second opinion.
