Dr. Yung-Shee Jessica Hsu, MD

Dr. Hsu was my OB during my first pregnancy and I wish I would have had another doctor. I just didn’t know any better. Every appointment I had with her was under two minutes. She made me feel like she didn’t have time for me or any questions. She told me I was gaining way too much weight and her only advice was to not eat any more fruit. Which is a joke. When it became time for me to deliver, I was told I had to be induced at 37 weeks due to complications. She told me she probably wouldn’t be the one to deliver my baby since the doctors at UCLA SM rotate every 24 hours. I told her that was okay as long as a female doctor was the one who delivered my baby. I was not comfortable having a man I have never met before doing the exams and delivery. After checking the schedule, she told me that there WAS going to a male doctor on call the day I would most likely be having my baby. I voiced my concerns again, and Instead of helping, she guilted me into feeling bad for NOT wanting him. She… told me he has a family and I just shouldn’t be worried about it. She said a male OB is pretty much the same thing as a female Urologist, like that was somehow supposed to make me feel better...? But it wasn’t even about that. Some people have experienced trauma and are just not comfortable around males in general. Especially for something as intimate to me as delivering my child. I would never sign up to see a male OB, and I wish she would’ve shown a sliver of compassion. She then told me I could change my induction date, but I would be risking my babies life. So obviously I felt as if I had no choice. Lo and behold, a male doctor ended up checking my cervix multiple times and eventually delivering my baby. Although the Dr. who delivered my baby did a good job & I am grateful my baby girl was born healthy, I can’t shake this feeling of sickness every time I think back to my delivery. And that is a terrible thing to associate with having your first baby. After I delivered my baby, I went to see Dr. Hsu eight weeks after. I was experiencing postpartum Depression and she couldn’t have cared less. I failed the tests horribly. She told me someone would call me in a few weeks and nobody ever did. The tests clearly stated I needed help that day :(

The worst doctor in the history of mankind

I wa aneroid about choosing Dr. Hsu as there weren't very many reviews of her online. I decided to make an appointment and go ahead with it and base my decision off of that visit. I am so HAPPY I have chosen her to by my OB. Not only is she super friendly but she takes the time to sit with you and explain timelines and reasons for visits and ultrasounds. This is my second child and even tho I have been through it once before she took the time in case I forgot how it worked. The front office staff was amazing and I was almost 30 min late due to a traffic accident. Even being late they fit me right in and Dr. Hsu worked me into her other visits brilliantly! I felt valued and important and I cannot wait to grow my relationship with this doctor and her staff.
