Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital

I chose this hospital for prenatal care and delivery because of its reputation and the way it is marketed as a supportive, high-quality environment for mothers and families. Like many people, I had seen mixed reviews but believed every experience is unique and wanted to go in with an open mind. I truly hoped my experience would reflect what is advertised. Unfortunately, my experience during delivery and postpartum care was deeply disappointing and left a lasting impact. During a very vulnerable time, I felt that my pain and concerns were not taken seriously, and the overall response from nursing staff felt dismissive rather than attentive. Communication was lacking, and there was a noticeable absence of urgency when it mattered most. No patient should feel like they have to repeatedly advocate for themselves to be heard, especially while recovering and caring for a newborn. What stands out most is the contrast between how this hospital presents itself and how care actually felt as a… patient. The experience felt more transactional than compassionate, which is troubling in a setting meant to support new parents. I also left with concerns about how patient concerns are documented and addressed, and how easily misunderstandings can add stress during an already overwhelming recovery period. Because of the emotional toll of my experience, I would not return to this hospital for future care. I sincerely hope leadership invests more in training nurses on pain management, listening skills, and patient advocacy, as well as ensuring providers document concerns accurately and thoughtfully. I share this not to recount personal details, but to encourage expectant parents to advocate strongly for themselves and to have a trusted support person present at all times.
