Dr. Brigitte Keener, OD

Dr. Brigitte Keener is an accomplished optometrist who provides excellent vision care to her patients from the 16th Street and 19th Street offices of Eye Doctors of Washington. Prior to joining the practice, Dr. Keener spent a decade working in the ophthalmology department at Mayo Clinic in Florida where she treated ocular conditions for patients with routine and medically complex cases. She has received numerous awards for her patient care, which she prides herself on.Dr. Keener specializes in the management of glaucoma and cataracts, including surgical co-management, diabetic eye exams, macular degeneration screenings, and the latest protocols for detecting ocular toxicity from systemic medications. She has also had great success treating dry eyes and ocular surface diseases, and she is an experienced contact lens fitter.Dr. Keener graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science. She then attended the Southern College of …Optometry, where she received her Doctorate in Optometry. While in school, Dr. Keener received many honors including induction into the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society and president of the Gold Key International Honor Society. Dr. Keener continued her education by completing a residency in Ocular Disease at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.As a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an American Optometric Association member, Dr. Keener is proud to be a part of the profession she loves. When not taking care of patients, she spends time with her family, including two children and spouse. She loves to travel the world and also serves her community by volunteering her time through the arts.
