So took my Mother, 97, to her doctor appointment at Webster Medical Center. Drove around back and parked near the door. That area was shaded and all ice. No sand, ice melt nothing. I went to get my Mother with the walker. As she went to get out of my minivan, she slipped on the ice and was hanging half in half out of the car. I’ve had rotator cuff surgery, and have no strength in my right arm. I tried my best to get her back in the car, but she didn’t have the strength to get on the seat. I tried to keep her from falling completely on the ground. No one was around, and I couldn’t leave her and walk into the office because of the position she was in. Finally she got some footing and was able to stand. We made our way on the ice to the door. When I got in I lost it with the office staff about what happened. I was told to have one of them help me with her. Not a solution. I apologized after. The staff was very kind, and the officer manager came out to talk to us. None of the doctors who I… believe own the building could be bothered. I guess the plow didn’t come back after hours and sand the parking lot. No one from the practice called anyone to put down ice melt or sand. No one in the building is in charge of spreading the ice melt. An unopened bag was by the door. I offered to put it down myself. As we were leaving I saw another elderly man struggling to walk on the ice. Staff were telling me how they had to be careful on the ice when walking in. Unbelievable that no one cares that this is an office for the elderly, and it’s no one’s job to put ice melt down. If that was my doctors office, I would find a new doctor. I find it totally unbelievable that no one in any of the practices in that building cares about the elderly patients. The front building can be accessed by an elevator and the parking lot is in the sun completely clear. That’s where I picked up my mother. But, there is a big sign on the door that no one can use that entrance. Not even in the winter? My mother is fine, and my healing arm is sore now.
