Dr. Michael J. Thorpy, MD

Dr Thorpy has a poor bedside manner, doesn't seem to care about following through with helping me with my sleep problems, when I was asking questions while seated across from him at his desk he got up from his chair and stood by the door while I was still seated, basically ushering me out the office, how rude. I had an overnight polysomnography at his facility, it was very uncomfortable, bed was uncomfortable, CPAP machine looked like it was at least 15 years old (didn't use it that night but did use it for a titration a following night). I slept horribly that night. Sleep lab staff were nice though. One time I was at his office I told the receptionist I had to go to the bathroom in case my name was called. Well, while I was in the bathroom my name was called, she didn't tell me when I got back, and he left for the day shortly afterwards while I was sitting there in the waiting room for over an hour. I travelled there for nothing from Queens. She offered no consolation except… "sorry". The office reception area is ugly and too small and overcrowded at times. I know Dr Thorpy has good credentials but the overall experience was poor. Expect minimal effort from him. It really seems like he only cares about getting patients in and out the door. I don't care what his credentials are, that's not the kind of doctor who I want to see when my sleep and quality of life literally depend on it.

About the only positive thing I could say is that I never waited very long to be seen by him. Setting up an appointment was always a nightmare. It seemed that I had to twist in knots to work around their schedule instead of them trying to accomodate me. They never answered the phone and then they cancelled appointments on me at the last minute and I had to wait forever to get a new one. Finally, the appointments themselves were awful. Dr. Thorpy never looked me in the eye, was unable to answer some of my questions and unwilling to bother answering others. He seemed not to care at all about my situation but despite spending less than three minutes on each of my appointments and berating me repeatedly for an unavoidable consequence of my condition, he was super quick to charge almost $1000 for each of those 3-minute encounters. Seems like he cares about seeing as many patients as many times as possible so he can bill them and the patient's health is irrelevant. I was really upset with my… experience but a couple phone calls and I was able to find a far superior clinic, with better scheduling options and a fantastic and knowledgeable clinician who saw me as a human being in midtown Manhattan. Do not recommend at all. Go elsewhere.

Dr thorpy is a very good doctor his staff on the other hand are the worst, no one picks up the phone no one follows up appointments or care for a patient ive waited over a year to get a sleep study every appointment they made for me has been canceled on the day of each appointment Three cancelled appointments in one year . I left countless messages no return calls .
