Dentist Richard D. Powell, DDS, PA
Dr. Powell is a native of North Carolina. He grew up in High Point and was a star basketball player and team captain. He attended High Point University and then graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1978. He and his wife, Karen, have lived in Matthews and Union County for 25 years. Dr. Powell has a married daughter who has 2 children (they call him "Papa Doc") and two sons who are 21 & 23 years old.
Calvary Church has been his church home since the first Sunday Dr. Powell and his wife moved to Charlotte. At one time he served as an Usher but he talked too much so he moved on to being a Small Group Leader for his Sunday School class. "He was very entertaining in that position" says wife, Karen.
Dr. Powell and Karen recently became breeders of high quality white labs. (See their Texas family's web site - www.legacy-labs.com.) They have 2 females, Gracie and a puppy, Abbie. Dr. Powell enjoys reading, …golfing, cooking on the grill, Wake Forest football and Carolina basketball (and sometimes Tarheel football when they have a decent team. He is also a very good handyman and can fix just about anything around the house.
Dr. Powell is known by his friends and family to be very funny and quick witted. Here's an example of one of the funny lines he uses in the office:
Patient: "Dr. Powell, can you put me to sleep to do that?"
