Dr. Alan Lee Panteck, MD

Dr. Panteck is one doctor I would strongly suggest you avoid. I came in with a hand injury, which he never asked about, and left with two fingers buddy taped (my 3YO niece could tape better than he did). He told me my injury was long term, would be painful and would swell for the rest of my life. Other than taping the fingers he had no plan of care (this includes no plan for how long to buddy tape my fingers). When I asked about follow up he said it was unnecessary. He told me to expect to be in intense pain every day for six months, and that swelling wasn’t a bad thing, that I would have it daily and there was nothing to do about it. It was clear I was wasting his time and that he couldn’t be bothered to even listen to my concerns (things like swelling that lead to throbbing pain, how to know when I could resume participation in groups I’m in that require use of my hand, when to follow up, what to do if I wake up in pain overnight (as I had been), and what to do to help my hand heal… (he actually it just needed to scar over, no plans to actually try to get my ligaments to function again)). It’s not worth seeing him - it was clear he felt I was wasting his time and I definitely wasted my time, co-pay and PTO seeing Dr. Panteck.

I saw Dr. Panteck about 5 years ago while suffering and in immense pain, from arthritis in my thumbs. I was also suffering from unbelievable pain in my shoulders. At my insistence he sent me for nerve testing to see if there really was something going on. During that test, the technician touched on one of my nerves and the pain in my shoulder went away, even if only for about an hour. When I saw Dr. Panteck on my follow-up visit, I told him about the relief from the pain when one of the nerves was stimulated, and after laughing at me, he told me there was really nothing he could do for me since my thumbs weren’t in that bad of shape. He said he didn’t believe in surgery, so my only option was to get a cortisone shot directly into the affected area. For the rest of my life! That shot lasted about a week and a half. Shortly after that I moved to Charlotte, NC and saw an orthopedic surgeon there. He said my cartilage loss was substantial, I had carpal-tunnel in both wrists and trigger… finger on my thumb and forefinger of my right hand. He recommended surgery. The long story short – I had the surgery on both of my hand, I can use my thumbs pain free, and have been pain free (and cortisone shot free) for almost 5 years now! I suggest you find a different doctor – this one rude and very narrow-minded!

He was so rude and degrading. He told me my pain wasn't real and that he wasn't going to do anything for me. He told me I wasted his time and my money. Definitely not coming back here ever again!!

I had a duyputrens contracture (growth) on the palm of my left hand and up my ring finger. It pulled my ring finger in toward my palm. It was getting harder and harder to use my hand and the finger got in the way when I would grab for something. He did a very nice job of removing the growth. I can now use my left hand and the finger is aligned with the other fingers. He is a very nice doctor and will take the time to talk to you. I would highly recommend him.
