Dr. Gail Judith Povar, MD

Dr. Povar is the best doctor I've ever had. I'm super sad she's retiring, as I'm sure alot of us are. She tells you the truth and doesn't mince words, but she cares for you like no one else does!

Yay she's retiring!

I can no longer have Dr. Povar as my doctor. When I wanted the results of my blood test which Mary Farrar ordered I had to have Dr. Povar call me, as Mary was out. It had been a week since the test.. Dr. Povar said "what was so important that you couldn't wait till tomorrow? Another time she got nasty when she found out I went to a walk in clinic, instead of stating her point in a decent way. She had a very unpleasant way of talking to me.

I have been a patient of Dr. Povar's since 2009. She is an excellent doctor. She is thorough, listens and checks the facts before deciding on a treatment. Dr. Povar literally save my life. After visiting a local emergency room for a severe headache (very unusual for me) I was told I had a sinus infrection. Only later did I find out my illness was very serious and I could have died had she not taken the time to run blood test and really listen to me. I have nothing but praises for Dr. Povar.... She is a wonderful doctor.

Dr. Povar was my physician for years, and I tolerated her abruptness because she is bright, quick, perky, and I thought I had a good physician. In retrospect, I think she is one of the worst. A person who is dismissive and contemptuous cannot listen, and a physician who cannot listen cannot be a good diagnostician. Her attitude managed to convince me that I created my problems. Suffering from fatigue, insomnia and depression for years, I requested a sleep study. Her response, "You are the WORST person to have a sleep study." When my new physician looked at my history, that's the first thing he ordered. I have sleep apnea. With c-pap machine, I sleep well and am off all antidepressants. She also dismissed with finality my symptom that something wasn't healing well after surgery. Now I have a chronic condition that could have been arrested. I don't expect my internist to know everything, but her dismissive FINALITY negates further discussion and consideration. If you have any… condition that might be considered a "social disease"--depression, fibromyalgia, trauma, obesity, alcoholism--STAY AWAY. From my experience and others, she will judge and label you and make you feel like you caused the disease. Would not recommend this doctor to anyone.

My experiences at this doctors office have always been sub par, but they have been getting worse. The front desk staff are extremely rude. And, instead of being interested in treating me for my illness (sore/strep throat), the doctors/PAs definitely seemed more interested in telling me to come back for a general physical soon (even when my last one was two years ago and I am in overall good health).

Dr. Povar doesn't always agree with me, but she always listens and lets me know clearly what her reasoning is. I feel like she treats me as a partner in my care. She returns phone calls herself, which most of my friends' doctors do not, and almost always within the same day.

Dr. Povar is very intelligent and knowledgable, but needs to learn how to be kinder. She is very abrupt and lacks quite a bit bedside manner. I do however think she is spot on in terms of her diagnostic ability.

Been with Dr. Povar for years and she's been wonderful until a few years ago. The last few years she has become very abrasive, abusive and can't recommend her any longer. I am moving on to find another doctor who provides both great beside manner WITH excellent medical knowledge and care.

I do not need to be treated like a wayward child when seeking medical help. Found her in washingtonian top docs..evidently it only asks other doctors who they would choose -- not the patients.
