Dr. Gerard Leo Murtagh, MD

I normally do not write reviews as there are way to many people with negative comments and lack of manners when it comes to comments and reviews. That being said, I felt it was necessary to write this review regarding my treatment with Dr. Murtagh, his staff, and the crew at the Bone & Joint Clinic in Baton Rouge. I had to have my shoulder rebuilt and I am covered under the VA Choice program. Most doctors will not even provide service under this program due to the red tape, slow and low pay, and Just the VA bureaucracy in general. It's not that the doctors do not want to help vets, it's just that the trouble they and their staff have to go through just to see and treat the vet is a fast diminishing return. I was expecting to go into the doctor and be treated as a second rate patient. I can say with full conviction that this was not the case. Dr. Murtagh, his staff, and anyone else I interacted with were prompt, professional, courteous, and caring at all times. Dr. Murtagh took his… time and explained everything in detail and answered any and all questions I or my spouse had regarding the surgery and post treatment. This attention to care extended to any of his staff that I interfaced with. my appointments were easy, I never had to wait longer than 10 minutes (skip the line and use the self check in kiosk) before going back for treatment and I received the latest cutting edge surgery techniques. My follow up appointments consisted of the same treatment. As a veteran, I am thankful for the medical practices and doctors that will help the vets as the VA system is overloaded with inefficiency. If the Choice program could kick into high gear and cut down the complications for the doctors that want to help I honestly believe a lot of government money would be saved and the vets would receive faster and better health care. I would recommend Dr. Murtagh to anyone in my family or any of my friends without hesitation. Bedside manners seem to be something that is deficient in the current times but Dr Murtagh, his staff, and the Bone and Joint Clinic were not deficient when it came to my care and treatment.

Dr, Murtagh is very Professional, Thorough and Insightful. I've been Suffering with Pain for years, Ortho after Ortho. Thanks to God ,Dr. Murtagh my Prayers have been answer. I'm finally getting the Care I need. The Staff is Awesome, Caring. You Don't feel like a Number, but Family ! Thank you Bone & Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge...

After suffering with my shoulder, I decided to call Dr. Murtagh's office for an appointment thinking maybe I could get one in several weeks. After telling the lady my problem around 9:30 this morning, she asked me if 2:00P.M. Would work. Of course I told her!! Went in for x-rays, saw his Nurse Practicioner then the Doctor. Was given an injection & was very pleased with the prompt appointment & timely manner in which I saw the Doctor on such short notice. I go back for a follow up visit in 3 weeks. Julian Kent

When I had my first visit, the pain I had experienced for several years took a toll on me. I wanted Dr. Murtagh to do something for me to rid the pain. I told him that I do not want a shoulder replacement. After he and I talked, He finally convinced me there was no other way I could get relieve. I have had the complete shoulder replacement and now after 3 months I am still going to Physical therapy and getting better everyday. I have no pain that I suffered with before the procedure. It is awesome to live w/o pain. Dr. Murtagh is an awesome doctor and I would refer his work to anyone that has severe arthritis. Quality of life is really important to me because I am used to doing so many things around the house that the previous pain had kept me from performing. I am so pleased to say, If I keep up therapy and working my shoulder at home,I will be very happy. Thank you, Dr. Murtagh for making me feel whole again. Carolyn Howard.

i am a ninety yearv old woman who has never been sick. when i fell and broke my wrist everyone in dr. murtaghs office was wonderful to me, from the front desk all the way to the doctor himself. i called and was able to schedule an appointment within the hour and the next day i had surgery

Dr. Murtagh is very professional and enthusiastic about his profession. He took a lot of time explaining the rotator cuff tear and how it is repaired. He's the best shoulder doctor around. He performed a repair to my torn rotator cuff 12 weeks and I had no problems and healing well. I would highly recommend him to others.

Everything and everyone I experienced at the Bone and Joint Clinic can be compared to " The Scout Law". Trustworthy ,Loyal, Helpful ,Friendly, Courteous , Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave , Clean and Reverent. Thanks

2 office visits for apparent frozen shoulder of 6 weeks duration. Dr. Murtagh did no physical examination, in fact, did not lay a finger upon me but left all that to his nurse practitioner. He ordered the standard treatment...cortisone, pain meds, anti-inflammatories, PT...all of which produced no relief. Murtagh ordered an MRI and diverted me to an oncologist, who discovered a boney mass on my shoulder blade, something Dr. Murtagh would surely have noticed had he bothered to examine me in the first place. I'm now in my 5th week of a cancer-hunting roller coaster and haven't heard "boo" from Murtagh. So far bone biopsy is negative, but pain is more intense and I have lost all function in the arm and am becoming addicted to pain killers. This is care?
