Dr. Jeffrey Lynn Sponsler, MD

My son was having life threatening sezures. They never gave him rescue meds when out of state For brief time. They gave him rescue meds the save his life when he is having sezures. Sponsler was supposed to me him in the hospital cause more sezures then ever after putting him one a new med on top of four other sezures med and he has more now then ever and they would not meet him in hospital. He left without important this being ordered. My son has more sezures now then ever. Do to brain center in Wasilla. The staff tried to help. But the Doctors don't help them help others. I give no stars my son has brain damage. I give a star for the staff.

If you value your health and your loved ones, DO NOT USE DR. SPONSLER. I went to him because of a serious issue with my neck that was causing my inability to walk correctly or use my right arm correctly. We did some tests, I gave him my medical history, his staff was wonderful. My second to last visit there his assistant performed a series of tests upon me, and while the tests caused me a great deal of pain, she was considerate and kind. My last appointment there was with DR. SPONSLER himself. After repeatedly telling him that he was causing me large amounts of pain while repositioning my legs for his tests (unnecessary BTW, but a great way to pad the billing to Medicaid). I had to get away from him. I was screaming in tears of pain as I shuffled out of there since I couldn't walk normally. Thankfully I found a Doctor in Anchorage who listened to me and my concerns, found the cause of my neurological problems, scheduled a surgery, and had the procedure done. And all that was… accomplished in less time than what I had already wasted with THE ALASKA BRAIN CENTER. That was back in 2018. NOW FOR THE REASON I AM LEAVING THIS REVIEW, my Son has had the horrible misfortune of having him as a Doctor for his undiagnosed seizures. My Son has the type that are considered to have the highest risk of death. They are clonic-tonic [Grand Mal), they happen at night, and each time I have got to him during one, he was face down with spittle and some vomit in his mouth. Watching him during these seizures with his eyes rolled back in his head is a sight I would not wish upon anyone. I stayed at MatSu Regional with my Son for a four day test that was designed to (hopefully) capture a seizure on an EEG in order to determine where the event originates within his brain. He could have also had more tests done during that time, which DR. SPONSLER AND HIS COMPANY, THE ALASKA BRAIN CENTER, failed to inform us of. Since the stay at the hospital (no seizure happened), the Alaska Brain Center has continually been close-mouthed about results and options. To me, it now appears that Dr. SPONSLERS lackadaisical attitude for the health of his patients has infected his current staff. They never answer the phone and we're lucky when they return a call within a week. After five and a half months,I'm done giving them a second chance.

The staff itself is friendly but everything else about this place is awful. When you are in a room you can hear everything going on outside the room. You can hear all about the patient being seen next to you. I was given someone else’s paperwork when I was leaving. A staff member was talking to a patient about their condition in the middle of the lobby. It is unprofessional and if this is just what was witnessed, it makes you wonder what privacy things are getting out that you don’t see.

Girls up front Very friendly and professional and than I seen the Doctor, very hurried, weird thing is he would never look at me in the eyes? He did go over my MRIs results but I noticed right away he would not make eye contact with me! Then as I was leaving the room this other Doctor lady screams at the top of her lungs at this young adult girl walking away from her. " IF YOU DON'T GET BACK HERE I WILL I GROUND YOU or something to that effect! Doors slamming, and I looked over to the poor receptionist as I was leaving who was saying softly to me "sorry". Please note this took place years ago but I will never forget it and the only reason I bring it up now!? I was just referred to him again and decided to read reviews in case it was just a one time thing! I am going to see if there are any new Neurology Doctors in the valley!

Dr. Sponsler is very intelligent and one can rely on his expert diagnosis. He will take the time to show you your MRI on the computer monitor and explain in lay terms. The office is beautiful and comfortable and I especially enjoy the friendly and curteous staff.

Here's a layout of my appointment. 1 - Seen right away. Excellent punctuality. 2 - Staff was polite. 3 - Doctor was hurried, in a rush. 4 - Doctor asked a number of questions, cut me off mid-response. Interrupted almost everything I had to say. 5 - Terrible bedside manner. 6 - Hesitated in giving medical treatment suggestions. 7 - Notes afterward stated that I -probably- need an extreme life-altering form of surgery to treat my undisclosed issue(s) when the symptoms of my issue are extremely mild and non-life threatening. 8 - Tends to make very hasty decisions without seeing medical records (this was my first visit with him).

This West Virginia quack does not know what he is doing. His "diagnoses" are pure fiction and his practice is a means to increase his cash flow. His office staff, especially his "physician's assistant" are equally incompetent, careless, and consumed with billing and bilking as much as they can get out of unfortuante patients' insurance. Since this "doctor" is the only neurologist around in the Mat-Su he is able to weasel himself into every facility and hospital as an "on-call specialist" to the detriment of the vulnerable. Do not use this parasitic practice or doctor. Ironically it is absolutely brainless.

I think he is very good I have no bad things to say about him I like hime very much.

Horrible bedside manner. Seems very narcissistic and was down right rude. Very blunt and showed no regard for helping though a difficult diagnosis. EEGs were performed differently between two visits there, and also different than (consistent, correct) EEGs done elsewhere. Prescribed as a first choice a medication with many known severe side effects, without discussing those potential side effects or other options. This did cause a lot of problems until the medication was changed. Another neurologist was aghast at prescribing that medication at that dose as a first option.

Dr Sponsler was very uncaring in his comments and diagnosis. Rude, abrupt and damaging to the patients self-image. Glad there are additional neurologists in the state to counteract his comments.There was no follow-up or advice on how to handle the situation.
