Dr. Joel Avram Sercarz, MD

We were referred to this doctor for my husband who had tonsil cancer. We have never been through anything like this before. He made us feel so comfortable and we were laughing even during our appointment. We left and went back to our home in Oxnard talking about him all the way on how comfortable we felt. During my husband surgery he was there for anything that we needed and the greatest thing about him is you can talk to him through email. And he responds fairly quickly. I would really recommend this doctor for anything for your ear nose or throat. And especially for a cancer patient

I have had many years of nose blockage and sinusitis. Dr. Joel Sercarz performed septoplasty and sinus surgery. I can now breathe that have not had the recurrent sinus infections that I was accustomed to. The postop period was very difficult, but well worth it.

Dr. Sercarz performed glossectomy to remove a tongue tumor. I was very happy with the preoperative, postoperative and surgical care provided by him and his team. I would recommend him whenever a difficult tumor removal is needed

Dr. Sercarz was very thoughtful and compassionate while caring for my oral cavity tumor. I would recommend to anyone who needs high quality care and a personal touch

Dr. Sercarz, I'm writing to you a little over a year after my son and I visited you in your office in the hopes that what you did to us, will not be repeated again. Our son was having night sweats, low fever and swollen glands. He was also a Freshman in college. The most elementary diagnosis should have been Mono. Instead, you chose to begin the conversation with a diagnosis of Lymphoma. That was before you had even began examining him. You asked how hard it would be for him to take a year off school because he'll need treatments. Then you sent us on a whirlwind of costly exams, x-ray and CT scan. You even failed to order a blood test (we asked our general practitioner to ordering one), instead pushing for a needle aspiration. Thankfully, by the end of that week we saw another ENT that assured us of how wrong your diagnosis was, and ordered a simple $25 mono test. We are grateful to him. Your actions has had a long lasting effect though. For an entire year, every time he… got sick, he asked if maybe there was a mistake and you had diagnosed him correctly. You put such unnecessary fear into him and it has taken a long time to get rid of it. Your actions also caused a huge financial burden on us. My only purpose for this review is for you to learn to be a little gentler with your patients, to take a moment and check all their symptoms before you begin with a guess. I am the mother of a physician and I hope my son never jumps into conclusions the way you did that day.. It was wrong.

Dr. Sercarz was very caring and amazing at addressing all of my concerns.

During one of the post surgery appointments, I looked over to my wife and asked her, "what is it? what is it about Dr. Sercarz that makes him a great doctor?" By this time I knew he was good. I mean, I thought he was amazing. The surgery went so well and I knew he changed my life. I knew my life was changing at that time. My wife replied, "he gives a great impression and he's trustworthy." It was true. From the first time I met him, I felt like I could trust him. Even as I was waiting for the surgery, I felt comfortable. I felt like I was at home. I remember my wife saying, "I wish I could have our baby here..." The UCLA Santa Monica facility was amazing. Everybody there was nice and helpful. I felt a big difference in the patient service at UCLA compared to Cedars. It's been about 4 months since my sinus surgery and I have a new life and career. I can finally breathe again. I don't have any sinus issues. Even on my worst day, I'm doing a lot better than the best day I… had before the surgery. Prior to the sinus surgery, I had a serious sinus problem for the past 15 years. Through the CT Scan, we discovered I had a deviated septum and my sinus was swollen. It was nearly impossible to breathe through my nose and I learned to breathe through my mouth. Thus, my mouth and lips were always dry. I also had a runny nose and I always felt a strong sinus pain and pressure on the top of my nose and forehead area. I also lost my sense of smell and I snored a lot. These symptoms got worse when I drank alcohol, specifically wine and ate wheat. I treated these symptoms by taking Claritin everyday. I took Claritin almost everyday for the past 15 years before the surgery few months ago. Procedures: Septoplasty, turbinectomy, frontal and maxillary sinusotomies Since the surgery, I haven't taken any Claritin. As mentioned, I can breathe through my nose (both nostrils). My sense of smell is starting to come back. I don't have running nose. I only do the sinus saline rinse that Dr. Sercarz recommended once or twice a day. I'm slowly starting to lose my habit of mouth breathing. I just can't believe I waited all these years to do this surgery. I was a patient at Cedars before transferring to UCLA. I'm so glad I did the surgery with Dr. Sercarz. I knew there was a new life waiting for me and I'm living that new life right now. I've been drinking a lot of good wine and whiskey since the surgery. When I drink a lot, I can tell my sinuses acting up a little the next day but like I said, my worst day is better than the best day I had before the surgery. Dr. Sercarz is trustworthy, kind, passionate and just really good at what he does. I'm a lawyer and I told him, I wish I could make my clients feel the way he made me feel. I'm truly luck to meet him and I can honestly say that he changed my life. I'm going to see him next week for my final post surgery checkup and I thought it was only fitting that I write him this review, hoping that there might be someone in my situation that could read this and get the surgery. I got him a nice bottle of wine btw.

Dr Sercarz is an excellent physician and surgeon. His accurate diagnosis and problem solving is wonderful.

I would choose this doctor again. He is good at handling complex cases.
