Dr. Mark Steven Vanhouten, MD

Dr. Van Houten is very caring and explains the condition and the reason in details. He does not rush. The staff is also very courteous.

It is time for this physician to retire or go back to school. He is no longer an "up-to-date" practicing neurologist , in my opinion.

I've gone to this doctor three times and he goes over the same speal and has ZERO PERSONNAL SKILLS. I asked him a few questions about my medical issues and he is completely oblivious. SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR THAN THIS ONE!

This man should never work with humans. He is a loose cannon with no common sense or sensibility. Treated my father and family with zero respect and discretion. I should have taken heed of the previous comments regarding this man. Don't go!

This doctor should retire. He does not like to treat Alzheimer's clients but rather than say so, treats them poorly and misdiagnoses them. Although he clearly saw atrophy of the brain in an MRI, he read the PET scan of my sister as normal and told her she had no neurological disease and should go for counseling to see why her memory is poor. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME, $$.

My mother and I went to this doctor because of a past procedure she has done that needed checking and some advice on behavior changes. She is 85. The only exam he did in his private office, not an exam room, was to talk to her like she was 3 years old and ask her some random questions (maybe 10) then order a test. She has seen a few Neurologist (hers retired, Dr Dobkin, wonderful!) When we left my mom and I laughed at the way he talked to her and it felt a little creepy.

Great Doctor and great Staff

I am very disappointed with Dr. Van Houghten and I do not believe he knows what he is doing. I have chronic migraines and after my first visit he prescribed a medicine to help alleviate them. After a few months on the medicine the advice was to ween myself off. I am having severe side effects from cutting the dose in half and I called to ask for help. After 2 DAYS with no reply from the office and several phone calls, I received a voicemail that said there was no other medication to try and to contact my primary care physician. What?!? My primary care doctor sent me to him to help with the migraines and now he has no advice and can be of no help. I feel like I'm having a constant panic attack because of the medicine. I wish I never was prescribed such an awful drug. Please be careful when choosing a neurologist. I would never recommend Dr. Van Houghten.

Visited this Dr for feet numbness. I had been referred out to 3 different doctors before I was referred to him. He immediately found the source of the problem, ordered appropriate testing and sure enough it supported his diagnosis. He immediately started me on treatment and have been followed by him since day 1. Staff was very friendly and greated me with a smile. I had tons of questions for both the Dr & staff they answered all my questions without being annoyed by me.

I was actually shocked by the way this physician conducted himself! I went in for a follow-up with my husband because I had some questions from his exam. I was concerned because my husband had some of the same symptoms and he is only 51. When I asked if the MRI could have missed something because my father had just passed away from a brain tumor missed on an MRI he said "What should we have an MRI every month!" I was shocked. I was in his office for 5 minutes and it was quite apparent he was completely irritated by any question I had and gave me one word answers. I work with physicians and in my 23 years of working with them I have never met a physician who was so rude and had such a lack of compassion. I was actually shocked! I would never go to this physician because of his attitude. We will be getting a second opinion and letting our Primary Care physician know he may want to refer his patients elsewhere. Not sure how this physician will stay in practice when patient satisfaction… scores are so important!!
